Early life[]

May Reilly's father kept numerous animals in his study, one of them was a spider. One day, May opened the spider's cage so it could get comfort, as she believed it to be upset for its captivity. May then tried to pet the spider, and as soon as her hand got near, the spider bit her. According to May, the spider taught her an important lesson, not to let anyone cage you. After her father died, May used spare parts of his garage to create a suit with four mechanical arms which enabled her to climb walls. She also created mechanical Web-Shooters.[1]

During a ball May was attending, Electro took the mayor hostage. May used this as an opportunity to debut as the Lady Spider. She confronted Electro, and webbed him up; however, soon the rest of the Six Men of Sinestry arrived. After taking some plans the mayor had hidden in his tuxedo, the six villains were forced to retreat due to the opposition Lady Spider posed to them. Believing she would miss the ball, May left the scene to return there.[1]

Spider-Verse[]

During the Totem War, between the Spider-Totems and the Inheritors, May was recruited into the Superior Spider-Army. Soon after, May's group joined the greater Spider-Army. On Earth-928, they were attacked by the Inheritors, but they managed to kill Daemos. When the Spider-Army escaped to Earth-13, May, Miguel O'Hara and a six-armed Peter Parker stayed behind to perform an autopsy on the corpse to find weaknesses in his kind.[2] Daemos resurfaced in a cloned body, but the heroes managed to trap him and carried out studies on his old body, although Peter was killed in the process.[3] When they caught up with the Spider-Army in the safe zone on Earth-13, May and Miguel discovered that many of their comrades had been killed after the Inheritors attacked.[4]

Lady-Spider and Spider-Man 2099 learn of the death of their companions.

Seeing Leopardon, the two decided to repair it, and to do so, they went to May's world.[4]. Having discovered that radiation was the weakness of the Inheritors, May and Miguel used that to enhance Leopardon.[4]. Shortly after, they were contacted by Peter Parker leading the Spider-Army and learned of the relocation of their companions, promising to join them when the work was finished.[4] After a confrontation with the Six Men of Sinestry, Miguel and May obtained the radioactive material they need and rejoin the rest of the army during the attack on the Inheritors' base of operations, Loomworld.[4] May survived the battle and, after the defeat of the Inherithors, returned to her world.[5]

Web-Warriors[]

An unidentified person hired Black Cat to distract Lady Spider while a heist in which stolen silver was being carried out. Black Cat stole a painting from a collector, but fled as Lady Spider confronted her, forcing Lady Spider to give chase. After being caught and webbed-up, the Black Cat revealed that her crime was merely a distraction, as Lady Spider left her for the police.[6]

With Web-Warriors

The Web-Warriors and Karn soon showed up on her world, being on the run from the Electro-Verse.[7] Lady Spider let them know about Felicia and the silver, and the Web-Warriors captured her. Felicia, however, knew nothing of the Electro-Verse and had only helped them once in exchange for a sparkling pendant, which the Web-Warriors took away.[8] The Electro-Verse followed the Web-Warrios, and Lady Spider got angry with them for bringing an extra danger into her world. The team drew them into the Battery Park and made their stand there, capturing the Electros under an inpenetrable dome. Billy Braddock and Mayday Parker got left behind,[9] while Lady Spider joined the Web-Warriors on Loomworld.

She then got stuck there as Karn lost her dimension and was unable to send her back right away.[10] While Karn and Pavitr were looking for a way to send her some, Lady Spider got into an argument with Spider-Ham who ate her chicken, thinking she wouldn't find out. She went along with the team to deal with extra-dimensional visitors on Spider-Punk's Earth-138,[11] only to get stuck there in turn alongside Anya Corazon following a dimensional quake that severed their connection to Karn and spread their allies to other realities.[12] MegaMorph Spider-Man got stuck with them as well and offered his unlimited power supply ho help them get home. Lady Spider hooked him to the team's Dimensional Travel Watches and Hobie applied the power of rock to the system, allowing the bracelet to synchronize.[13] They went back to Earth-803 where Elecros have broken out of their containment and were fighting the Spiders for control over the whole Great Web. The Spiders eventually prevailed, defeating the Electro's and saving the Web of Life and Destiny at the cost of losing respect of May's fellow New Yorkers.[14]

Lady Spider did not participate in the second clash between the Spider-Totems and the Inheritors, but after it was over, agreed to have Spider-UK buried in her world.[15] She later joined Earth-928B Miguel O'Hara's Spider Society and participated in the chase of Miles Morales.[16]
