Synopsis for "A Sinister Heart"

In the Catskills, Beast and Phoenix await the arrival of Cyclops and Archangel when they are suddenly attacked by the Dark Riders. The two X-Men are overwhelmed, and Jean is kidnapped by Genesis, who seeks to uncover a secret from Mr. Sinister's past. Hank follows Jean's telepathic trail to an old mansion in the Hollywood Hills.

In a flashback, an episode of Mister Sinisters life during the Great Depression is revealed. Faye Livingstone fell in love with the charming Nathaniel Essex, unaware of his true identity as a genetic experimenter. Essex imprisoned her in his secret laboratory and conducted experiments on her due to her potential for mutant offspring. Eventually, he released her, but he never forgot her.

In the present, Beast arrives just in time to witness Jean's escape from Genesis. The villain reveals that he kidnapped Faye to find a weakness in Sinister for revenge against his betrayal of Apocalypse. Jean is forced to mind-link Sinister with Faye to uncover the truth. In their mental conversation, it is revealed that despite his cruelty, Sinister truly loved Faye. Faye dies after the link is disconnected. Sinister lies about the revelation to Genesis, who quickly acknowledges that Sinister indeed does not have a weakness. Sinister allows Hank and Jean to leave the crumbling mansion he once owned.
