History
William Downing is the son of a Canadian woman named Dolores Downing and of Wolverine, though nothing is known about the relationship apart from the fact that they had a child. William Downing was raised by his mother and the two took care of each other until she died of old age.
Later, Downing was recruited by a powerful organization called the Red Right Hand that has a personal vendetta against Wolverine. He took the name of Gunhawk, who was a famous western gunslinger, and because of his experience and training, Downing was appointed the leader of the mercenary group dubbed the “Mongrels”. The Mongrels team was created to eliminate, Wolverine's friends, family and ex-girlfriends.
Working with Shadowstalker, Fire Knives, Saw Fist and Cannon Foot, Gunhawk tracked down Wolverine's current girlfriend, Melita Garner, whom they found working in the San Francisco Post building. The team dealt with the building security officers as they entered the building. When the find Melita and attack they are shocked to find her with a Skrull sonic disruptor, which she fires at them, which allows her to get away with the help of the mutant shape shifter Mystique.
Gunhawk returns to the The Red Right Hand and reports of the team's failure, however, his superiors decide to proceed to their next target in the nation of Madripoor. The Mongrels arrive in Madripoor and travel through the city to find the Princess Bar. They enter the establishment and massacre the staff.
Tyger Tiger intervenes when Gunhawk attempts to open a certain door of the room filled with mementos and possessions which Wolverine has accumulated over his long lifetime. Gunhawk tells Tyger Tiger that “Logan is in hell” and burns down the room. Tyger asks why they are doing this but all Gunhawk can say is Wolverine has made his and the rest of the teams life a living hell.
Soon afterward the Mongrels finally meet Wolverine and the team battles him. However, Wolverine is the better warrior and soon bests them in combat and kills them all one by one. It wasn't until after the last of the team is gone from the battle that Wolverine finds out the Gunhawk and the rest of the team are all his children. The realization that he has killed his own children devastates Wolverine.
Later, Wolverine takes the body of his slain son to the grave of his mother Dolores Downing and buries them together.Attributes
