Kid Colt Outlaw #10
(originally printed as Redmen on the Warpath!)

The town of Gunbutt Storm, a number of prominent ranchers are seemingly murdered by warriors of the local Comanche tribe, angering the locals who pressure the sheriff into doing something about it. However, the sheriff warns the locals to keep a cool head until an investigation can be done as a war between the local Natives would cause untold bloodshed. The biggest protester turns out to be the local banker Simon Grubb who demands immediate and brutal justice against the Comanches.

When Kid Colt rides into the area he spots a smoke signal from the Comanche tribe ordering preparations for war. Being on good terms with the Comanches, Kid Colt pays a visit to their village and speaks to their leader Eagle Wing. He learns that some of the Comanche's arrows have been stolen and realizes that someone is trying to frame them for the killings around the area. The Kid then convinces Eagle Wing and his people to hold off on going on the war path until he can find out who is really responsible for the killings.

Riding into Gunbutt Storm, Kid Colt talks to a livery stableman and learns about local politics, how Simon Grubb has been seeking to buy grazing lands but there are none available for sale in the area. Later he hears from a little boy the Grubb had a meeting with the locals and is organizing a militia to attack the Comanche tribe. Finding this suspicious, Kid Colt rides to Grubb's home and listens in through one of the windows. He overhears Grubb talking with an outlaw named Ferris and learns that he has been framing the Comanches for the purposes of starting a war that he hopes will wipe out the ranchers and allow him to buy the grazing land cheaply. Realizing that they are being spied on, Ferris tries to shoot the Kid until he is recognized and Grubb orders him to stand down telling him that they can frame Kid Colt for the murders. Ferris then rides out to the Comanche camp and tells them, and the Natives buy the story.

Chief Eagle Wing then sends some of his braves to track down and kill Kid Colt for his "betrayal" of their trust. Kid Colt is forced to flee with guns blazing and an army of Comanches on his trail. Along the way he runs into the militia and fights his way through them as well to get into town and deal with Simon Grubb. Arriving at Grubb's house, the Kid guns down Ferris and forces Grubb to write a confession and then leaves him to be discovered. The Comanches and the locals call a temporary truce and return to town and find Grubb wrapped up for them and decide to flip a coin to decide which side gets to mete out justice.
