Washington Square Park is a recreational area located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City.
History
On November 14th, 1940, young Steve Rogers, frustrated by the brewing turmoil taking place in Europe, walked to a U.S. Army recruiting station in Washington Square Park hoping to enlist. Unfortunately for Rogers, he was turned down as 4F. It was here that General Chester Phillips and Dr. Abraham Erskine selected Steve to participate in the secret government program known as Project: Rebirth.[1]
The Washington Square Arch was eventually transformed by the planting of Flowers of Krakoa into a Krakoan Gateway, a pathway leading directly to the island of Krakoa in the South Pacific.[2]Points of Interest
