History
Deadpool was a member of the Thunderbolts. In order to avoid putting up with a road trip in the Punisher's van, Deadpool shot himself in the head with the intention to regenerate after it was over. During the trip, fellow member the Leader set out to kill the rest of the team. After using gamma radiation to knock General Ross unconscious, he tossed a lighter into Deadpool's body, causing it to set ablaze. After escaping from the vehicle when it crashed, the Leader caused further damages by setting off a net with grenades after luring the Punisher and Elektra to the back of the van for assistance. The Leader fled from the scene, pondering that Deadpool and Ross could have survived the massacre, but dismissed that likelihood since he planned to be far away by the time they woke up.
This entire scenario was glimpsed by the Leader of Earth-616 in the form of a hypothetical scenario he planned out. He backed out from executing the plan, fearing that he couldn't trust his brain and worrying about any variables that might have escaped him due to his reduced mental capacity.[1]
