I need help undoing the vandalism caused by green on the hulk page.

Category suggestion

Hola! me again. I was looking at adding missing comic covers, but they're all bunched in with characters, teams, etc. I was wondering if it wouldn't be a little easier to modify the templates so that they categorize into comic image needed, team image needed, etc. That way it would be easier to find images that need to be added. Reality numbering

Hey Pete, wanted to ask you about reality numbering. If it doesn't have an "official" number, what should I do. Normally, I've been thinking of the date and month of the 1st publication appearance. For example: Fantastic Four:The End #1 was published in December 2006, so I'd use Earth-200612. Is that okay, or is there another way I should go? Eetmi 03:23, 16 March 2009 (UTC)


New Parser thing

Hi, Nathan. Just to let you know the new one appears to fix more bits than it breaks. The problem I had with {{Navbox}} appears cured as can now get the header bar edit buttons to work as per WP. So looks like NavBox2 you created is redundant now at Tractor Wiki (will keep it incase any problems crop up).

Apparently there is an addon function to create pages from templates, but staff not got back to me on that (bit tied up with this change i think to reply).

Also do you know how to adapt the Image uploader to offer categorisation options (possibly from a limited set) on upload in addition to the Copyright set of tags ? -- Thanks BulldozerD11 21:23, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for reply Nathan. "Self" must be the only one that dident Cat the images in it as Id Done the others and modified the text in some cases (oops missed it). The CC by SA 3.0 option was added by me to that menu.
No What i was asking about was to Categorise then in other categories that are independent and not related to the License category. On here you 'Probably' Categories as Comic Covers, Character graphics, Custom art work and similar, I (Want) need to group by Tractor , Steam, Plant, Model etc were they can be any of the copyright status categories as well. (wereas here Comic Cover will all be Copyrighted, (Fair use or with permission). If that makes sense, by adding a 2nd drop down box or some radio buttons for half a dozen popular options with a default to say Other.
The 'clean up' list looked horrendous but a lots transcluded pages I think, I've still got issues with some xxBox (the Message box suite) pages but as they are not in use, just waiting for future applications as and when required instead of hard coding individual ones, like with the clean up & Image required, and having style issues i got he set of ready built ones (but abit more complex than id 1st thought to sort out).
Will the Createpage function be simpler than the custom implementation thats been built on here ? looked like awfull lot of If statements !!!
Is your Glossary section a custom name space ?

Hi again Nnathan, I see what you have now done a MkII version. That could be one way, but with the number of copyright option, the list would get a bit long as would have say 5 x 6 = 30 options ( or more). I suppose could just add the most likly combinations to start off with. I think about it for now !!
Still got 100 of categories to define / delete and categories. (dident realise how many I'd created, but the Auto suggest appears to stop at times) ? (even got the odd nearly duplicate page, mixing 'Page name' and 'Page Name' at different times, arrh.
Would the Marvel create page be portable, or is the underlying templates too complex ?

Episodes

Saw you were adding in the episodes for the X-Men: Animated Series. I found that there is much more on the videos that you were missing. I added them in (very easy by the way so props to Wikia). Thought also we might want to address video naming while we were at it. Thoughts? Since some of the videos will be parts rather than wholes, I was going to go with: Video:"EpisodeName" Season# Episode# Part# (which with my test was going to turn out: Video:X-Men: The Animated Series Season 1 Ep 1 Pt 1). HA! Understand completely. Looks like they were not able to add the entire episode to youtube (either copyright or the editors ability) so it was split up for each of the 20 minute episodes. Now as for the naming you have been doing for the pages, I think that is cool and easy to follow. I added the other episodes to the X-Men: The Animated Series Season 1 1 so you could see. Just thought it would be cool to put up the entire episode so people could watch the whole way through (it's even difficult to see on YouTube since they are all named different). --M1shawhan 00:22, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Template help

Hey Pete, I was hoping to get your assistance on a template I'm trying to create. I'm trying to make a template for collected editions, TPB's etc. I can't quite figure out what the problem is and was hoping you could take a look and see if you see the problem. It's basically, an extremely truncated version of the comics template.

Here's the template page, and the test page I'm trying to create. Basically, it's only got the cover, the title and volume # and the cover artist in the info box, along with any alternate covers/2nd printings. Then out in the body, just a gallery of the issues collected. But for the life of me, I can't get the gallery pics out of the info box. Any chance you could give me a hand please?

So excited ! ! !

I noticed the work you're doing on using the ! to redirect to primary characters. Is there a way to let all users know that's how they can search now? I posting in the forums might not reach everyone. Can we add a text box by the search box to let people know?

1500?!? Wow, you were busier than I thought. That should be enough for a while. Is there a way to track how often that search gets used? That will tell you if you should increase the amount or not.
Site-wide message, blog posting, new news item, there's so many ways to go to make an announcement. Can you make one of those announcements like I get from Wikia? I know I get some of them because I am an admin, but can everybody receive one?

Fannon Wiki

Yeah, I was thinking we should maybe get more involved with that site. Make the site better and maybe more people would want to use it. Certain types of people seem to like creating characters but are rejecting the site made specifically for that purpose. I'm not sure why that is. Maybe we're setting a tone that the Fannon Wiki is the place where we banish people rather than be inconvenienced? We'll have to work on that. Maybe I'll make my own character over there and show that you can be actively involved in both sites if your willing to play by the rules.--Max 03:03, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Need User Rights Changed...?

I am having problems now on my AWB since I go it updated (Dec or so). I used to be able to use my bot under my M1shawhan account. I have now noticed that it tags my user status at the bottom as "Bot=True, Admin=True" (down at the bottom when it first logs me in). When it does this it strangely removes my "Bot" tab?!?!? Before, when it would log me in as "Bot=True, Admin=False" and would still give me the bot tab. Does yours do this??? I was having to manually "save" rather than allowing my bot tab to auto-save. :( Thoughts? Anyhow, I thought that maybe it was due to my M1shawhanbot name being updated to a bot in Sept. Since my bot has my name in it do you think that this is somehow making it confused?!? --M1shawhan 23:27, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Forum Registration Error

I'm having some problems registering with the Marvel Database forum. First off, I can't seem to select any language other than "British English," even though I speak and write American English. Also, whenever I attempt to register, an error message comes up that says:

"CGI Error The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers."

I previously tried logging in with my selected user name and password as you suggested, but I apparently needed to recieve a confirmation e-mail to follow the instructions in to do so; I got none. When I filled out a form to resend the e-mail, I still didn't get an e-mail. And I know I'm checking the right address, just so you know. AU Character Fan Art

Since I can't do anything on the forum as of until further notice, I figure maybe I could ask you, since I get the impression you're a seasoned member if not either pratically or literally a staff member (correct me if I'm wrong, I am new here).

You know how each character gets a page for fan art? Of course you do, but I was wondering what one should do if they ever drew a picture of a character as they feel they'd appear in a reality they, in fact, don't have an incarnation for in. Re: technical problems?

Hi Nathan. Have you noticed technical problems with the site in recent weeks? I've been having 'interrupted connection with server' errors in Firefox and 'page not found' errors in IE on both this site and the DC wiki along with very slow load when I'm lucky enough to even get it to save an edit. I was not able to do posts at all in Firefox so I tried IE with somewhat better luck, but the site is still seriously hosed. It was like this last Monday too, and then got a bit more responsive during the week as it fades in and out. I was wondering if everybody was having problems or if this is an issue with my computer or ISP.

Re: database query

Hi Nathan. Thanks for your reply. Yesterday the database was responsive anyway. Hopefully it'll go back to being consistent. On another topic, is there any way to query the database as to which templates have, for instance, a Penciler field that has no value? I was wondering if there is any way to look for which templates need work further fleshing them out without having to actually click on the template and look at it.

Why did you remove comment that I left on the talk page of User:Xvenomtoxin134? They were valid and I just left a hypothetical example to explain that Marvel Comics' interpretation of characters that they own trumps those of outside sources. I know I don't coddle the guy as some others do, I'm not the coddling type, but that doesn't invalidate the point I was trying to make to him. Not Nathan here, but last time I blocked him for six months. If we quietly ignore him he might get bored and go away. He's obviously very young and either doesn't get it or isn't used to being told no. We've said it all to him so at this point anything we do would be like provoking an argument. We are a community and we have to do our best to keep things civil. It can work out for the best sometimes. See Marvel and DC editor's gracious apology above for example. Hi, it's me. Just thought I'd come to say, you can contribute to the TSSM wing of the detabase, too, if you want. The entire first and second seasons are on YouTube (the last couple aren't uploaded fully and direct you to some site called "watchspider-man.com," but don't trust that site; just look those eps up on Veoh). characters whose names are in red

Hi again,

I don't mean to bother you again, but I was wondering how I get a template for those characters whose names come up in red. I realize that these are characters who have been referenced but who actually don't have an entry, so if I could get a template to use I'd gladly rectify that.

And yeah, I have a fasination with golden age characters, I would love to do the pages for so many of these awesome yet totally forgotten characters. Must stem from the fact that I teach high school history, lol.

Review section

You think we should add a review section to the Comic Template? I have been thinking about adding a "See Also" link like {{PAGENAME}}/Review. What do you think? I know there is always the discussion page (which we could even link to as well), but I think it would allow people to put in their thoughts about a comic that they love or hate. Not sure I know what you mean...I saw you tagging review-blogs on an individual page. It looked like it was a sub-page for YOU. I think just having the option in the template would suffice. For posted blogs we could simply have a category for "Comic Blogs" and attach any reviews into that category. That, or I am completely not following you. :( --M1shawhan 05:54, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Database Errors

I can't seem to upload an image to the site. Whenever I click "upload," nothing happens. Oh, and the site seems to be saying you don't exist when I type "User talk:peteparker" into the search box; I had to get to this page through one of the articles I knew you edited. --DanMat6288 19:05, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

I was using the Upload image page. I filled out everything, but whenever I clicked "Upload file," literally nothing happened other than that the button pressed in. The image I was trying to upload was this: ChameleonSSM2008.png

Categories?!?

Know of any ways to update the .css or .js files (personal if needed) to show the categories the old way? It bugs me when the categories that are included va the template are not showing when you're editing. --M1shawhan 21:43, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! I tried it and I am not sure if it was me or the cache thing messing it up. DEFAULTSORT

Yeah! It was bugging me. I also thought maybe to replace -, &, and :'s with spaces AND to make it read all lowercase, so that they are not pushed to the top and stay "alphabetized" properly. Thoughts? --M1shawhan 21:58, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Actually "-" (becomes a space), "&" (becomes "and"), ":" (gets blanked), and also ": The" (gets blanked). Lowercase still needs to be put on, and lastly...why do some of these pages in every category get placed under "C" for their fullpagename, while others stay correctly categorized?!?!? --M1shawhan 22:08, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
OH! and "/"'s in the pagename. Probably need to be blanked out or become "and"...open to suggestions and HELP - but of course you're forcing me to learn the parameters you added...soooo don't help! ;) --M1shawhan 22:20, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
LOL!!! It looks COMPLETELY different with my resolution on the site...each of those are on their own lines. I didn't even notice, and I just adjusted everything to match what I was seeing. Please adjust it if you can since it does look a little, "ugly"! I am bad at thinking everyone sees what I see on my screen. :(

redirect

Hi,

I was wondering if you could do me a favour. I just finished updating Allan Krandell, the Apache Kid and noticed there was another page with no info under one of Krandell's alias,' Dazii Kare. I'm still not that great at the code part of this stuff yet so I was wodering if you could either redirect Kare's page to Krandell's or perhaps merge the two? I would really appreciate it.

Yeah Dazii and aloysius kane are both alias' of Alan Krandell. Ummm in regards to a typo I'm actually not sure, it is Kare in the Apache skies series and in the Westerns Outlaw Files. I think maybe when the character got retconned a couple years ago for Apache Skys his alias but started spelling it wrong, before that he haden't been used in about 50 years. But the research I've done shows that Alan Krandell and Aloysius Kane/kare are indeed the same man, http://www.internationalhero.co.uk/a/apachekid.htm also agrees that it's the same guy

Yeah, I figured it had something to do with the suggested move. I wasn't sure what you were trying to do, but I was sure it wasn't that. Mesmero's name is a mystery to me. Alignment

I caught Winston Churchill and changed his aligment from Good. I'll keep an eye out for historical figures as we go. But here's where it gets sticky. I noticed Hitler's alignment is listed as Bad. I know we should try to keep this policy as consistant as possible, but if you can't call Hitler Bad, then who can you call Bad? Any sane person would agree that Hitler was a bad guy. What are your thoughts? Should we have a Hitler exception? Or will that lead to trouble down the line. (It was so much easier when I was just assuming a character qualified for good if he simply never ate a kitten or tossed Spider-Man's girlfriend off a bridge.) ;)--Max 07:11, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Otherwise, I tend to think of him as the ultimate behind-the-scenes villain of the Invaders series. ;) It occured to me that Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton have no pages yet so I'll probably get around to them sooner or later (unaligned of coarse). Oh man,

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do anything to get the site in trouble. It's just that some of these characters are so obscure that theirs is the only site with a good full history of the character. There's probably 4 or 5 characters that I have done similar things with. I have partial histories for most of these guys, such as when Red Raven (Old West) battled the West Coast Avengers, but then I have to go searching for a more complete version of the character's history.

I'd never directly cut and paste or plagerize another author's work, but you're right I should have paraphrased a few of these pages much better than I did. I know roughly which ones they are and will go back and reword their entries to ensure that no mix-up happans between the two sites again.

Hey Nathan -- As far as I can tell, Barnell Bohusk (Earth-10005) didn't actually appear in Wolverine. Monaghan ended up playing Scott Bradley/Bolt, which makes vaguely more sense actually. I'm not entirely sure how to move the page without breaking everything known to man (not to mention that you've handily removed the move button), so I simply created the new one. The Morlocks are not a race, they are a group of mutants who have visible mutations. If mutants with visible mutations are Morlocks, than that would mean that mutants such as Nightcrawler and Angel would also be Morlocks, and that is just ridiculous don't you think?

Hi Nathan. Is there a way to specify a link that will go to the DC wikia? The Ditko story in Tales of Suspense 21 has basically the same plot with a minor variation as the Wrightson story in House of Mystery 180 so I wanted to make a Note where an interested party could click on House of Mystery 180 and go directly to the issue to see what I wrote about it there.

Minor Character template

reprints

Hey Nathan,

I've just got a quick question regarding the site's policy on reprint titles. I finished doing up the Outlaw Kid series of the 1950's and am about to start on vol. 2 of the 70s. The second series, however, began as a reprint title of the old 50s stories until they ran out and then they started new story lines. Just wondered if or how I'm supposed to go about mentioning where the reprinted stories came from.

I just put mentioned the reprinted stories in the notes like this Comics:Outlaw Kid Vol 2 1. Its functional I suppose... the other way I was thinking about doing it was writing where each story came from in the individual story synopsis space. For this issue it didn't really make any sense as all the stories came from the same issue, but I'm not sure if that is always the case with this series. If the stories all came from seperate issues, it probably would look better under the synopsis'. What do you think?

Bucky Captain America and another Doctor Doom on Earth-90210?

Are you sure this version of Captain America is Bucky, i know that that is Bucky's Captain America costume but he doesn't have a robotic arm. And what about Doctor Doom, where is it oficially stated that he has an unnamed successor.

Personally, i think that the Captain America on Earth-90210 is Steve Rogers. Because it is known that the Red Skull only considers Steven Rogers a worthy opponent and the true Captain America. On Earth-616 he killed Steve's temporary replacement Roscoe the Mechanic and warned Steve that every other "fake" Captain America would suffer the same fate, thus making it very unlikely that he would wear the costume for 50 years of a person that he had killed that was not Steven Rogers. And further about Doctor Doom, i suggest we move it to "Victor von Doom (Earth-90210)" as it seems unlikely that someone who would have succeeded Doctor Doom would be actually wearing his armor. And it is also said that 50 years ago, Emma Frost married Doom to ensure the survival of her species, and she appears to still be married to him.

Missing Characters

We should merge the two X-Men (Earth-1081) pages because when Morph talks about his reality's version of the X-Men he said that he returned to them, obviously meaning that he didn't join a different version of them, i also want to know who the two mutants standing with Professor X of Earth-1081 are, the one standing behind him is probably Iceman but who is the other one, can you recognize his costume?

Minor -> Regular Character Templates

Hola! I created a couple of minor characters last night, then I noticed this morning that a bot went through and changed them to the regular character template. Are we getting rid of the minor character template? Didn't see anything on the boards about it, but wanted to check so I'll stop using it if so. Eetmi 10:22, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Cool, I noticed that the regular character template doesn't fill out completely for powers etc if nothings filled in, so that's cool. Then it doesn't look like a big empty page :D. I would be a lot better if the forums did something to highlight new posts and threads since your last visit.. Right now you have to just look at the date and see. Like some kind of bar off to the right that lists new threads that have been created, and show a number of new posts in a thread if there are any. Or move new ones to the top or something, but its really really hard to scroll through everything trying to hunt for anything new. I also didn't see anything where you can select to watch threads and be alerted to new posts within a thread. That would be beneficial too.

That's cool my only concern was using the regular character template puts them in the characters category, and I guess they're charcters "per se", but that's kind of iffy. Yeah, probably want to toss it at the forums and get a general concesus. a whole new template vs modifying the character template to accomodate animals more.
