Synopsis for "afterMath"

Johnny, Clarice and Marcos get Lauren and the mutants they rescued from Linwood to the clinic. After stabilizing Lauren, Caitlin and Johnny treat one of the mutants, Michael, whose body produces a powerful acid. Johnny thinks Michael could tell them the identity of the mutant who the Inner Circle rescued from Linwood, and the nature of her abilities could help the Underground figure out what they are planning. When Michael regains consciousness, he tells them the mutant is extremely powerful, as the measures taken to keep her locked up made even Linwood's psychatrist feel guilty. Clarice and Marcos take the other mutants rescued from Linwood to the Morlock tunnels. Clarice convinces Erg to take them in, on the condition that the mutants without obvious physical mutations brand their faces with an "M". Although Marcos is outraged by this, the refugees - including one Marcos bonded with while they were waiting - accept to Erg's condition.

Meanwhile, the Inner Circle's victory appears to be bitter-sweet. While the video of the Linwood staff's confession has sparked mutant protests across the country, Rebecca - the mutant they rescued from the hospital - has been completely shut off. Andy thinks the Frost sisters' approach is too harsh, and tries to reach her on a more human level. After getting her some normal clothes, Andy takes Rebecca out to eat. She demonstrates her ability to "twist" things inside-out. After eating, she convinces Andy to blow up a cop car with her for fun. When they return to headquarters, Rebecca is ready to help the Inner Circle with the next phase of their plan.

Jace Turner gets in touch with the Purifiers as a distraction from his marital issues. He attends one of their meetings at a church, where the police officer who first contacted him tells them to start attacking the mutant protesters. Jace, however, calms things down, and suggests they round up the mutants who escaped from Linwood instead. Realizing those fugitive mutants were injured, he leads a group of Purifiers to a mutant-friendly clinic - the same clinic where the Underground is treating the mutants they rescued from Linwood. Caitlin and Johnny take Michael and hide in the clinic's basement, where Michael dies from his wounds. The Purifiers notice the hospital bed where they treated Michael is partially melted from his acid. Johnny wants to intervene when the Purifiers begin beating up the clinic's doctor, but Caitlin stops him so the Purifiers don't discover them. The Purifiers leave as police sirens get closer, but Jace Turner takes their records with him. After he goes through them from his hotel room, Jace calls the Purifiers so they can hit the Underground "where they live."
