The "M" isn't officially part of the name, rather simply a shorthand way to denote specifcally which borough of New York City you're talking about the school being in since there's:
  • Public School 20 Anna Silver in Manhattan
  • Public School 20 Clinton Hill in Brooklyn
  • Public School 20 John Bowne in Queens
  • Public School 20 P.O. George J. Werdan III in the Bronx
  • Public School 20 Port Richmond in Staten Island

I did not know that. I live in Canada and the school naming is a bit different than United States.

I live on the West Coast of the United States and it's complete different from New York City here as well, with the primary difference being that their population density (almost as many people as a quarter of the entire nation of Canada just in that one city) requires a distinct numbering system not needed elsewhere. -- Annabell (talk) 21:58, June 6, 2016 (UTC)
