The events of Avengers/JLA are canonical, as far as I know.

I think he meant DC Silver Age Universe, which is Earth-One, not Earth-1 and that reality was destroyed, it does not exists anymore. The Main Universe of DC is now Prime Earth, but in this article they meant DC Multiverse, not the Main universe.
