Synopsis for "I Saw the Invasion of the Stone Men"Edit

Tales to Astonish Vol 1 6 001
Two stone men rise from beneath the streets of New York city and cause a panic. A geologist who has warned people for years that life exists deep underground is taken for a traitor who is in league with the monsters by an angry mob. The scientist denies that he is in league with them, and since the creatures menace no one, he asks the army to leave them alone. Eventually the stone men retreat back below the surface, but the military are worried they will return in greater numbers. The geologist has realized that they will not return because they can see nothing on the surface and cannot breathe due to their having evolved in the high density of the Earth's crust and they were merely exploring.
