According to Norse Mythology, the god Frey owns the magic sword, Laevateinn, or the Sword of Destiny. It is supposed to fight on its own, only "if wise be he who wields it". This indicates that it has the same kind of user-restriction enchantment on it as Mjolnir. Further, after falling in love with giantess named Gerd, she would only marry him if he gave the magic sword away.[citation needed]

At Ragnarök, Surtur is supposed to have wielded Frey's magic sword, severed the roots of Yggdrasil, the world tree, and instigate the destruction of the universe, and Frey is supposed to ultimately fall to his own blade. With it, he could have defeated Surtur and stopped Ragnarok.[citation needed]
