History

The past history of S.H.I.E.L.D. on Earth-79101 mirrors that of their Earth-616 counterpart until the day Hydra would send their super-agent Arachne to assassinate SHIELD director Nick Fury. In this reality, although Fury would talk Arachne out of killing him, she would accidentally blast him with a lethal venom blast when they would be interrupted by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. With Fury dead, de Fontaine would take over S.H.I.E.L.D. operations and vow to capture Arachne in order to avenge Nick's death.

Although they would fail to capture Arachne at their headquarters, S.H.I.E.L.D. would track her to Hydra's base. In the assault on the secret hideout, S.H.I.E.L.D. would succeed in capturing Arachne, but the Supreme Hydra Otto Vermis would seemingly perish attempting to escape. De Fontaine would force Arachne to stand trial for her murder of Fury. The court would be shocked by the surprise witness of Otto Vermis who would tell the court that Arachne was really a spider mutated into human form. This revelation would prompt Arachne to flee the court room, and despite SHIELD's efforts they would fail to stop her.

S.H.I.E.L.D. would then put out an international warrant out for Arachne (now calling herself Spider-Woman), offering a reward to anyone who manages to capture her.
