Synopsis for "The Masquerade Party"Edit

Strange Tales Vol 1 83 015
A spoiled rich girl always pays everyone back for even the most trivial imagined slights. When someone takes away some man she's got her eye on, she resolves to throw a costume party at the same time so that no one will show up for her rival's party. A cruel and arrogant demon crashes the party and treats the guests like garbage and the spoiled rich girl thinks she's found true love at last. When the clock strikes midnight, asks the demon to unmask and he replies "What mask, my love?" She faints, and when she recovers she resolves to turn over a new leaf, but the reader sees that it was just the boyfriend of the woman who's party was ruined giving the spoiled girl a little of her own payback.

Continuity Notes

  • Originally, "From Out of the Black Pit Came... Grogg!" was set in an unnamed "remote Asian province." When it was reprinted in Where Monsters Dwell #27, the story was edited so that Mikos was now Michael and the unnamed province was changed to Bodavia, a fictional communist nation created for Marvel's British reprint series. This retcon seems to have stuck as Marvel Monsters: From the Files of Ulysses Bloodstone #1 confirms the story's updated setting.
