Synopsis for 1st story

Zarda, the Warrior Woman, is assaying the view from her palace and mentally writing the first draft of the story she will make history remember: the story of a power princess who chose to become a queen, of the citizens who had burst for joy, and of the enchantment worked subsequently, when this old kingdom was transformed into a place of open wonder. She thinks it a fine alternative to the truth: the story of how she invaded this country with an army of alien mercenaries, of the civilians who had burst under tank treads and gunfire, and of the towering new construction already complete, hidden from the world.

Her ally, Modred the Mystic, returns from a fact-finding mission, which, combined with her present thoughts, causes Warrior Woman to consider how she won the loyalty of the Myriad. Modred reminds her that she "won" their loyalty by cheating, and using the magic of the Eye of Zot, the crystal he carries, the very crystal which Doctor Druid created a larger version of to gain dominion of Weirdworld.

Modred gives his report: the first half of what he found is that her reign can be undone by someone specific, someone she killed getting from her world to this one. Warrior Woman considers her tale: she and her comrades, the Squadron Sinister, were shocked by the news that the world was going to end, but decided to deal with the issue by combing their efforts into a portal, to take them to another universe. However, when it was done, they realised that only one person at a time could use the portal... and that the time needed to recharge the portal for even a second user was longer than the time they had. The group was primed to fight to their last breath, when she killed them all.

Modred is surprised that she was able to accomplish the feat, and she explains that they underestimated her power, her skills, her drive. They didn't see her coming, and so she was able to get to the portal and leave, without a backward glance. She only saw one other person during the long and arduous transition: a version of her from another universe, who called herself Power Princess. She conned her doppelganger into getting close, and then siphoned all the life energy from her, letting her emerge onto this new Earth at full strength. When she did, she remade her appearance in the image of her doppelganger so that people would trust her.

Modred goes back to the start of his story: at New Atlantis, in the bay by New York City, is a young man that the superhumans have been talking about recently - a precognitive Inhuman named Ulysses. Using magic to get close and compel, Modred was able to find out under what circumstances Zarda will rule this world. She can take the planet with the Myriad if she is able to mobilize the Atlanteans, and the only way she can do that is if she can resurrect and recruit Namor, Prince of Atlantis.

Zarda muses over the issue, and then points out that, since coming to this world, she has heard several tales of superhumans returning from death, including Namor himself. The way forward is not impossible. Modred applauds this positivist reading, but returns to the second part: someone she killed to get here is not only not dead, but is coming to stop her.

From a nearby building, the opponent watches. Though their near-death robbed them of their superhuman abilities, they were able to make the transition. But even with normal human strength, they will make Warrior Woman regret the day she betrayed - Power Princess!

Synopsis for 2nd story

There was a void between worlds, where there was nothing to do but float and remember. Here, Power Princess lay, drained, helpless, as she thought of her last moments on her Earth. How her friends, crippled and dying from trying to hold back the crisis, urged her to use the portal they had built to escape to another world. The last of them, Hyperion, charged her to "remember". This is the thought that sustained her as she drifted, waiting for the journey to end.

On the world she eventually came to, Power Princess had discovered she had no Utopian gifts. As normal Zara Shelton, she had adjusted with good grace to all the particulars of her home but one - this world's Squadron Supreme was a group of rogue superhumans... and one of them was her untrustworthy doppelganger.

She readjusted herself. A vendetta requires funding, and so she had sought out criminal enterprise and violently taken its money. A vendetta requires information, and so she had snuck into a base of this world's "S.H.I.E.L.D." agency, and copied all the information their systems had about the Squadron.

A vendetta requires insight, and so she had followed the S.H.I.E.L.D. information to a wrecked building in Galveston, TX, where she interrogated the alien guard. When the Squadron's missions had taken them beyond normal reach, she had recruited Daimon Hellstrom, an untrustworthy magician, to take her after them. There, from a person named Tyndall, she had heard of her doppelganger's betrayal of the Squadron, and of Hyperion's vulnerability to magic.

A vendetta requires proximity, and so she had watched the headquarters of Oracle, Inc., a New York-based company owned by Namor when it had suddenly become more active upon his death, under its new C.E.O., Raymond Kane, who had the same body as the Squadron's Nighthawk. Breaking into his office, she had found his correspondence with a low-level trucker named Marc Milton. With one final favor to Hellstrom, she was able to arrange a spotting trip, where Hellstrom had placed a tracking spell on Hyperion.

A vendetta requires time, but her doppelganger had not been generous. Taking control of the shadowy "Myriad" group, her doppelganger had turned it from a crime organization of lost alien mercenaries into a personal army, and then led it as her force to conquer the nation of Alambra. As the organization was adjusting to its new role, she had been able to find a lone Myriad sky base. Using skills taught to her by a man from her world named Nighthawk, she then fought her way through the skeleton crew, got to their computer, and discovered that Myriad's next objective from on high was to find and resurrect Namor the Sub-Mariner.

So now, through the water, Zara Shelton is following the tracker on Hyperion, hoping it will lead her to the one group of people who hate her doppelganger more than she does...
