The old man explains to him that he has kept several clocks running sixty-one seconds to the minute for several years thus saving up quite a bit of time which he uses to enjoy the village in its heyday. The man is startled to see the clock maker eat food which appears out of nowhere, ride a buggy down to the dock pulled by a horse he can't see and dance a square dance in a broken down old barn.
