History

Earth X[]

Sonfire was the son of the late Shiro Yoshida, also known as the X-Man Sunfire. His father became ruler of the Asian continent following the mutation of humanity. After he was assassinated, Sonfire succeeded to the throne and assumed leadership of Xen, the premiere superhero group in Asia.[2]

When the Skull launched his conquest of America, Captain America travelled around the world to rally superhumans to oppose him. Sonfire was one the first to be recruited, and agreed to help fight the Skull. After the Skull was defeated, Sonfire returned to his native Japan.[3]

Universe X[]

Three years later, after the resurrection of the Kree hero Mar-Vell Sonfire and Xen aided him in his quest to gather artifacts of power that would allow him to destroy Death and create a Paradise for the dead to inhabit. Xen gathered the Rings of the Mandarin for Mar-Vell.[4] They would also come under attack by the Tong of Creel who had come seeking a part of the Absorbing Man entrusted to Sonfire's father before his death. Xen was defeated, and the piece stolen.[5]

While the Absorbing Man was reassembled and nearly destroyed New York City, he was ultimately convinced to sacrifice himself to save the planet from impending ecological collapse.[6]

Paradise X[]

Sometime after that, Sonfire and Xen would agree to join Dr. Strange in a journey to Asgard to rescue Clea who was prisoner there. The move proved unpopular with his teammates in Xen, and created a rift between the group and their emperor.[7]

They succeeded in their quest, however they would return to find that the reanimated corpse of Fin Fang Foom was terrorizing Japan. Sonfire and the others managed to destroy the beast, though some members of Xen, most notably Banzai, blamed Sonfire for failing to prevent the monster's destruction.[7]
