History

The Sebettu (or Isirru in Babylon) were a group of seven gods or divine warriors, including Pazuzu and seemingly Nergal.

Two goals of the Sebettu have been identified so far:

• They guarded their territories against malevolent entities.
• They often followed Nergal into battle, spreading famine, drought and pestilence among their enemies to prevent survivors.

Notes

Nergal's status towards the Sebettu is unclear: One account presents them as followed by the Sebettu, while another presents him as part of the group.
