What is the origin story of Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops from X-Men? toggle section
Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops from X-Men, is a mutant who was born with his extraordinary abilities that developed during puberty. He is one of the first X-Men, a group of mutant heroes created by Professor X with the purpose of defending a world that hated and feared them. Scott began a relationship with his teammate Jean Grey. During a mission, Jean was forced to sacrifice herself to save her team. Her anguished telepathic cries attracted the Phoenix Force, an Elder of the Universe that had come to Earth so that it could die. Drawn by Jean's love for Cyclops, the Phoenix bonded to her, becoming a binary being. The Phoenix created a psychic rapport with Cyclops, and the two became closer than any humans could be, sharing their minds and souls with each other. After a brief and chaotic period, the Phoenix fulfilled its purpose and died. Jean was later resurrected, though the love that they had paled in comparison to what Cyclops had shared with the Phoenix.
