History

The Ringo Kid was a half-breed, the son of a white lawyer named Cory Rand, and the Commanche Dawn Star, the daughter of a prominent Chieftan. Cory's love for Dawn Star ruined his career, as he faced prejudice from his colleagues. He finally gave up his life as a lawyer, and lived with Dawn Star on the prairie, dwelling among a mostly Commanche population. However, local rancher Shad Rathburn wanted Rand's property. When Rand turned down a $10,000 offer, he tried to have him killed, but Rand killed the man Rathburn had draw on him.

The same day Rand met Rathburn, Dawn Star gave birth to their son. That evening a shooting star blazed across the sky, and a wolf bayed at the moon, both good omens for their son. The son was blessed by the medicine men, and grew to become a fine young man. Because he enjoyed the ringing noise bottles made when he shot at them, he was called the Ringo Kid. His father and the entire Commanche tribe saw to his upbringing, shaping him into a fighter, a marsksman, and a rider. He and the Commanche Dull Knife became blood brothers, and kept that bond for the rest of their lives.

By the time he was a teenager, Ringo too began to suffer from prejudice. Although he was loved and accepted by all Commanches, white children called him a half-breed. When he fought back against some teens who insulted his mother, he was attacked by Rathburn, who whipped him. Ringo's father drove Rathburn off, but he swore revenge on Rand's family. That very evening, Rathburn set fire to the Rand household, killing Dawn Star. Rathburn then tried to hang Cory from a tree, but Ringo came to his father's rescue, fighting past a dozen men to save him. Cory was overcome with grief at Dawn Star's death, and knew that he and Ringo would both be hunted as outlaws. He and Ringo parted that night, and remained seperated for years.

In the years they spent apart, both men had adventures, and Cory made many friends in the west. Ringo continued to excel in his skills, and when the two finally reunited, they rode together. Dull Knife remained true to Ringo all this time, and joined the Rands in their travels as they came to aid of people in need, brought down outlaw gangs, and cleared the names of innocents. The Ringo Kid even thwarted a mad scientist named Dr. Saturn, who blinded entire towns with flashes of light so that he could plunder them while they were dazed. The Ringo Kid was known to have ridden with the Rawhide Kid, Kid Colt, Two-Gun Kid and Phantom Rider in his later days.
