History

Dr. Ryder was an agent of A.I.M. who had infiltrated the anti-espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D. Knowing that they had a traitor in their midst, Nick Fury was able to draw Ryder out by accusing Captain America of being the traitor and testing him out using the powerful "X-4" android built by Tony Stark, who was then the agency's chief weaponsmith. As expected, the traitor took the Captain's test by fire as an opportunity to assassinate him, and Ryder was caught in the act of operating the android via remote control by Sharon Carter.
