History

Paul was a young adult who worked in a comic book shop, he was fired after his boss discovered Paul was stealing issues with variant covers, which he was selling to sustain his gaming hobby. Paul took notice of the Hench X App, and decided he could work as a super-villain mercenary, which he believed would certainly pay more than a minimum wage job. He also decided to take the opportunity to impress a girl he knew.

Plantman (Paul) (Earth-616) from Astonishing Ant-Man Vol 1 7 001

Paul's human form

Paul attended one of the Power Broker's launch parties for the Hench X App, and he was chosen to be subjected to a process to become a super-villain on the spot. After Paul became the new Plantman, Ant-Man arrived to the scene to interrogate the Power Broker for personal matters. The Power Broker decided to use Ant-Man's presence to his advantage, and pitch Plantman against him for publicity.

Ant-Man used Platman's inexperience to his advantage, and knocked him down after having his ants eat most of Paul's green arsenal.[1]

At some point in time, Paul alongside the other Plantman was imprisoned by S.H.I.E.L.D. in Pleasant Hill, a super-prison designed to turn their inmates into model citizens with the use of a Cosmic Cube. He was turned into a TV repairman.

After a revolt incited by Baron Zemo which led to a breakout, Plantman escaped from Pleasant Hill. He later heeded Zemo's call to form the "New Masters" alongside Firebrand and Flying Tiger. When Captain America and his allies attacked Zemo, Paul surrendered without a fight, hoping it would be beneficial for his parole hearing.[2]
