History

The New Orleans Police Department was presumably founded at the end of the 18th century, nearly one hundred years after the founding of the city. Since then, it has operated like any police department, but has not been free of corrupt cops such as Detective Connors and his underlings. Police officers of the N.O.P.D. were dispatched to handle the cat burglary of a car radio in 2010, where they found a young boy and his older brother trying to return it. Fearing they would be charged with the crime, however, the older boy ran and his brother followed. Detective Connors cornered the older boy at the waterfront, where a Roxxon oil rig exploded, causing Connors to shoot the willingly surrendered boy. The police department met its first bout of enhanced individuals, after said explosion, however, when Tyrone, the younger boy, dove into the water after his brother's body and was endowed with powers related to darkness while another child, a girl named Tandy Bowen, was trapped in a sinking car and endowed with powers related to light.

These children's powers would not awaken again for another eight years, during the course of which the N.O.P.D. would deny the existence of a Detective Connors due to his vice status and subsequently doctor the evidence of Billy Johnson's death to make it appear as though he died of a drug overdose. Meanwhile, Connors would operate off the books in drug deals and other crimes around the city, including with a former friend of Billy's, Duane Porter. At some point in these eight years, the N.O.P.D. would hire on a young detective by the name of O'Reilly who had previously worked with the N.Y.P.D. and Misty Knight in Harlem.

The Divine Pairing[]

When Tandy and Tyrone's powers reawakened, the N.O.P.D. would face some of its most bizarre cases yet, ranging from a young bachelor stabbed during a rape attempt by a dagger that didn't exist to Connors being confronted numerous times by a boy who could teleport, from Connors' admission of guilt of killing Billy to raging monsters attacking and overrunning the police headquarters.
