History

18th century[]

La Nouvelle-Orléans (New Orleans) was founded in the spring of 1718 as part of New France. In the 18th century, Candra arrived at the new world where she established a pact with the New Orleans Assassins and Thieves Guild. She provided the Assassins with great power,[1][2] enough to protect her should her immortal brethren intend to due her harm. She bestowed the thieves with Elixir of Life[3][4] to extend their ability to divine and resurrect the Old Kingdom. These would be provided by monetary tribute from each guild every certain number of years through a ritual called “tithing".[5][6]

19th century[]

In the 19th century, the United States of America purchased Louisiana making it a state and New Orleans an American city.

Only a decade later, the US saw New Orleans being attacked by British forces.[7]

20th century[]

In 1947, Captain America and Bucky were invited to be guests of a Mardi Gras parade, where they prevented the theft of a diamond necklace worn by the parade queen.[8]

In 1949, in her capacity as editor of Beauty Magazine, the Olympian love goddess Venus participated in a Mardi Gras parade. The festivities were interrupted when Loki came to Earth to try and spread his evil. To this end, he trapped Venus in Hades while he possessed the body of her employer Whitney Hammond. Venus freed herself and banished Loki back to Hades.[9]

Modern Age[]

Katrina Hurricane[]

The city was hit by "Hurricane Katrina" a Category 5 hurricane. It caused catastrophic damage and thousands of deaths.[10]

Following the most recent Ragnarok cycle of Asgard, Heimdall found himself resurrected as a mortal named Ezra in New Orleans with no memory of his past life as a god. When Thor returned to life, he found Ezra assisting with the relief effort following the massive hurricane Katrina.[11] Thor restored Heimdall's memories and godly status before leaving New Orleans.[12]

Selene forced the mutant tracker Caliban to locate deceased mutants as part of her plot to ascend to godhood. To this end, they located the remains of deceased mutant pre-cog Destiny and resurrected her in New Orleans.[13]
