Mutant Force[]

The Master of Magnetism and founder of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Magneto, assembled a new group of minions for his cause of mutant supremacy: Mutants Peeper, Slither, Shocker, Lifter, and Burner joined his operation, being based in a tower in a suburban area. Through a newspaper ad, Magneto learned about a debilitated mutant in need of help. Going to the mutant's rescue, he clashed with Captain America, who had also had access to the information. They learned about the existence of Mister One and Mister Two, a two-bodied creature formed by the microscopic mind of Mister One and the gargantuan physique of Mister Two. Magneto saw in Mister One an opportunity to infiltrate a concise spaceship he had secured. However, Captain America thwarted his recruitment attempts and brought Mister One and Mister Two to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s custody. In order to kidnap Mister One, Magneto sent his lackeys to distract Captain America and Mister Two. The team retreated as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents intervened, but Magneto was successful in his plan. Captain America and Mister Two joined forces to rescue Mister One, battling Magneto's minions in the process. Mister Two was murdered by Burner. Not being able to survive without his other half, Mister One detonated the spaceship Magneto wished to weaponize. Amidst the chaos, Magneto and his agents escaped.[1]

The villain Mandrill reorganized the decadent group for his interests,[2] dubbing them the Mutant Force. They worked in coalition with Fem-Force, a harem of female warrior women brainwashed by the Mandrill. They tried to seize control of a military base in Colorado, but a distress call reached the Defenders, who fended them off. However, the heroes were ultimately deceived by the apparent victims and captured[3] by the Mandrill. The female Defenders were seduced, then the Mandrill named controlled Defenders Valkyrie and Hellcat as the new leaders of his team (a decision the Mutant Force resented) in a second attempt to invade the military base. Able to resist his influence, the girl Dian Wilkins managed to recuperate the Defenders.[2] During a violent ordeal, The Valkyrie overcame the Mandrill's influence, then beat the Mutant Force. They were defeated and arrested, and the Mandrill abandoned them to escape.[4]

Instead of being sent to prison, Mutant Force was assigned a mission by the intelligence services to get pardoned.[5] As governmental agents, they tackled the menacing Defender Hulk. The group was overpowered even though they had military backup, and the Hulk was rescued by the Defenders. Influenced by the Tribunals, Mutant Force debriefed the ordeal to justify the deactivation of the Defenders alongside Hellcat's ex-husband Buzz Baxter.[6] They eventually abandoned their sanctioned job, and had a chance to get revenge against the Defenders. Hired by the Secret Empire, they were led by Baxter under the alias of Mad-Dog. In a failed attempt to ruin Hellcat's wedding ceremony to Daimon Hellstrom, Mad-Dog and the Mutant Force were defeated.[7] Placed under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s arrest, Mad-Dog and Mutant Force managed to escape, rejoining the Empire's ranks.[8] The Defenders made imperative to stop the Secret Empire plans. The Defenders fought Secret Empire and Mutant Force, learning the mastermind behind the attacks to be Professor Power, who wished to extend his influence over the world and to punish Professor Xavier's pupils.[9] The Defenders resisted his actions, fighting Mutant Force one more time.[10] In the end, the mutant terrorists were defeated and recaptured by S.H.I.E.L.D., with Professor Power being finished off by the Defenders.[11]

Resistants[]

In the face of the Mutant Registration Act, Mutant Force rebranded themselves as the Resistants. Adopting new identities, Lifter, Peeper, Shocker and Burner rebranded themselves, respectively, as Meteorite, Occult, Paralyzer, and Crucible. They recruited several mutants to their cause, including Mist Mistress, and set up a base in Mesmero's former Mutant City, in California.[12] Slither defected at some point, becoming a minion for the Viper. In one of their first missions, the Resistants rescued and recruited the mutant Quill, who had been arrested by the new Captain America under the Commission's orders.[13] The Resistants broke the telepath Mentallo from prison. As Think-Tank, Mentallo accepted to psychically guide the Resistants in liberating mutants. They were attracted to a court-martial under the information that Quicksilver was being trialed. In fact, that was a ruse orchestrated by the Commission's group of mutant agents of Freedom Force to trap them. With extreme brutality, the new Captain America knocked the Resistants out, ruining any chance of Freedom Force locating their base.[12]

The Red Skull secretly used the Resistants sporadically as pawns for his machinations, funding their operations.[14][15] Eventually, the Red Skull targeted Magneto. The Resistants were influenced to stage a protest and demand Magneto to join them to catch his attention. The Red Skull sent a robotic doppelgänger of Magneto to attack the protesters, causing the original Captain America to react.[16] The Resistances eventually established themselves within the superhuman criminal community.[17] After clashing, by chance, with Super-Patriot, who they mistook for Captain America, the Resistants were arrested due to the intervention of Dead Ringer.[18]

Back to Basics[]

Going back to their origins, the group Magneto first assembled returned to their identities as members of the Mutant Force again. Entangled in criminal activities, they were easily apprehended by the New Warriors.[19] Following mutant-related crises, the group apparently disbanded. After the destruction of Genosha, Shocker was among the survivors who struggled in its ruins.[20] Later on, most of the Mutant Force were depowered during the mutant Decimation.[21] Peeper was an exception, but he was eventually murdered by a Predator X.[22] The surviving members of Mutant Force reassembled later. In an attempt to attack a military base, they were apprehended and taken to the Triskelion by Alpha Flight, which was commanded by Captain Marvel.[23]
