History

An American adventurer, Murdoch Adams was travelling across England when he stumbled across a demonic cult in York dedicated to the worship of the Celtic god Ludi, intent on sacrificing a young woman. Adams interrupted the ceremony, and was forced to confront Ludi himself. During the struggle, Adams accidentally struck a church bell, causing Ludi to recoil. Realising Ludi was vulnerable to loud noises and vibrations, Adams used the bell to drive him back to his own dimension.[1]

The Assyrian God Ningal sought revenge on Adams for the banishment of his ally, Ludi, and tormented Adams for many years. Eventually, Adams and Ningal would face each other; Ningal would kill Adams' lover, but Adams would succeed in trapping them both in an other-dimensional block of energy. There they both remained until they were both freed by the Dweller-in-Darkness. Adams re-materialised in Greenwich Village. Confused and disoriented, Adams sought out Dr Stephen Strange for help.[2]

Together with Strange, he travelled back to England to investigate Ningal's cult. En route, their plane came under attack from Ningal, though Strange was able to fight him off. Upon landing, Adams reconnected with his fiancee, Marcia Trent. Unknown to him, Trent was a cultist of Ningal, and she drugged him and tried to kill him. Before he passed out completely, he was able to use the power of a magical talisman Strange had given him for protection against Ningal and his followers. Adams survived the attack, but Trent died as a result.[3]
