History
Morga was a Deviant woman, considered ugly by Deviant standards, who served in the royal court as a handmaiden. However, when Deviant Lemuria was visited by Phaeder, a self-exiled Inhuman geneticist, he found Morga to be attractive by Inhuman standards. Morga and Phaeder mated and produced a son who would later call himself Maelstrom.[1]
The Deviants later put Morga to death[1][2] and sent her son to the slave pits.[2]Notes
- Although the first in-story mention of the fact that Maelstrom's mother was a Deviant who had been killed by her own people occurred in Avengers #248, her name and her fate had been revealed over a year earlier in Maelstrom's entry in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe #6.
- Aside from that single in-story mention, everything that is known about Morga comes from mentions of her in various Official Handbook entries. However, that information has varied over time.
- According to Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe #6, Phaeder was initially accepted by the Deviants and lived in their capital in undersea Lemuria-East for decades. During this time, Phaeder's son Maelstrom reached the age of 20, dallied with a Deviant woman (Noma) and had a son by her. However, when Phaeder later fell out of favor with the ruling body of the Deviants, both Phaeder's and Maelstrom's mates were put to death and Maelstrom's son was sent to the slave pens while Phaeder and Maelstrom fled.
- Maelstrom's entry in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe (Vol. 2) #7 confirms that a Deviant woman named Morga was his mother but does not mention her occupation, her fate or Maelstrom's son.
- The entry on the Deviants in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z #3 states that Morga was a Deviant woman who mated with the outcast Inhuman geneticist Phaeder and bore his son Maelstrom. However, this account states that Morga was killed because she resembled a human and that Maelstrom was sent to Lemuria's slave pits where he stayed until Phaeder rescued him.
- Maelstrom's entry in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z #6 states that Morga was his mother and that she and Phaeder raised their son in Deviant Lemuria in his early years but that Morga was eventually put to death for having relations with an outsider and her son was made a slave who was eventually rescued by Phaeder.
