History

The early life of Mason Harding largely mirrors that of his Earth-616 counterpart.

Mason Harding was a brilliant inventor who created the Mad-Bomb and a dimensional doorway. After inventing the doorway, Harding used his Mad-Bomb on Abner Doolittle and his other assistants, tricking them into believing that they had created the doorway, allowing Harding to protect his secrets.[1]

Following the mutation of humanity, Harding developed scales on his body. He was convinced that the mutations were in fact a case of mass insanity caused by the detonation of his Mad-Bomb. Harding came to reside in Washington, D.C. with his daughter. She was killed, either in the anarchy following the mutations or when the Absorbing Man attacked the city.[1]

Even though the Absorbing Man left D.C. in ruins, Harding continued to live there. He was visited by Captain America and Mar-Vell, who had come in search of his dimensional doorway. Harding directed them to the top of Mount Rushmore, where it was hidden.[1]
