Mary Jane Watson was a girl living in New York City who was approached by Spider-Man from another reality. Spider-Man gave her lots of fuss because in his reality Mary Jane is his wife, but Mary Jane didn't respond because she wasn't going out with Spider-Man; as far as she was concerned he was engaged to Gwen Stacy. Gwen overheard the conversation and assumed her boyfriend was in love with Mary Jane.
