Synopsis for "Juggernaut"Edit

This story postulates long ago a scientist attempted an experiment which had disastrous unforeseen consequences; stopping the motion of the body which would some day be called Earth while all other bodies continued their motion and slammed into it. The scientist comes up with a scheme that will restore the Earth's natural forces while sacrificing his own life, and in 1951 archeologists on a dig in New Mexico discover fragments of the alien metal of his spaceship and bits of notes describing his attempt at undoing the disaster he has caused.

Synopsis for "A Man Named Satan"Edit

A sculptor offers to sell his soul to Satan if he can be free of his nagging wife and in peace. A black slab appears before him and he sets to creating a figure. The spirit of the Devil possesses the figure and turns his wife into a black goat. The man stabs it to death and the Devil and man go to many lands, bringing plague and famine. Finally, in Tibet the man finds a slab of white marble and appeals to the Devil's vanity to create his likeness in white. He finishes the statue but convinces the Devil to possess it. When the Devil agrees, he strikes the statue and shatters it. The man falls to the ground mortally wounded, hearing a voice telling him "When you destroyed me, you destroyed yourself" but the man answers that no, at last he is free.

Synopsis for "The Black Cat"Edit

A wealthy man torments his superstitious servant by buying a black cat named Satan as a pet. Eventually the servant locks his master in the downstairs vault in order to suffocate him, but the cat has followed the master into the vault. The master mocks his servant by telling him through the door that he had a phone installed, but when he attempts to use it to summon the police, the cat knocks it out of his hands with a leap and it breaks. The master collapses to the floor and the cat sits upon his chest, waiting for his demise.

Synopsis for "I Saw Tomorrow"Edit

A man murders another for his crystal ball that displays the future. The ball shows him dashing down an alley to elude police and he escapes the authorities. He gets in his car but the ball shows him going over the cliff to his doom. He smashes the ball, thinking that he has broken the spell, but after turning the next corner his brakes fail and he goes over the cliff.
