Marvel's Luke Cage is a Netflix series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is the third of four series - preceded by Marvel's Daredevil and Marvel's Jessica Jones, and followed by Marvel's Iron Fist - that Marvel will bring to Netflix, culminating in a mini-series where the heroes team up in Marvel's The Defenders.[1]

In December 2014, Mike Colter was cast as Luke Cage in a supporting role in Marvel's Jessica Jones, opposite Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones.[2] Cheo Hodari Coker was hired as showrunner in March 2015.[3]

Filming took place in Harlem and other places in New York City from September 2015 to March 2016 under the working title Tiara.[4]

At the red carpet premiere of Marvel's Daredevil season two, Colter announced that his series would be made available on Netflix on September 30, 2016.[5]

On December 4th, 2016, Marvel announced via Twitter that Netflix had renewed the series for a second season.[6]

  • In the episode "Suckas Need Bodyguards," a woman asks "Remember when Obama sang Al Green?" while trying to give an example of how to make a fun political campaign. However, the current president of the United States in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Matthew Ellis. It is unknown if this is a continuity error, or if Obama exists in this universe in another Political post of some sort, or perhaps Obama was the president before Ellis took over.
    • Another reference to Obama is made in the episode "Now You're Mine," when Diamondback makes fun of a guy who resembles Obama saying "Yes we Can."
  • There is no mention of the Sokovia Accords when people discusses if "Vigilantes" are needed, even though Luke Cage revels himself to the public eye. Which probably means that this takes place before the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
