History
Kate Farrell is a journalist at Daily Bugle. On her way to work, Farrell stopped to see the remnants of a crime scene at the Stark Building. She noticed that Red Guard members of S.H.I.E.L.D. had taken over the crime scene investigation, which she found to be quite suspicious.
As a result, Farrell arrived late to the 3-o'clock meeting at the Bugle and was verbally reprimanded by her mutant editor-in-chief. When she tried to tell her boss about S.H.I.E.L.D.'s suspicious activity, her editor told her that they would wait for S.H.I.E.L.D.'s official report before reporting anything about it. This became a heated argument which Farrell could not win. Her friend, Ben Urich told her that she needed to do a better job of picking her battles and that she should try to write something truly inspired in order to placate their editor.
Farrell, therefore, stayed at the Bugle late into the night attempting to write a story about Erik Magnus, the mutant rights champion and leader of the island nation of Genosha. While searching through the files-room looking for a photo of Magnus with former president Richard Nixon, Farrell was attacked by the hero known as Hawkeye who was rambling that he had died some months back and that he had two distinct sets of memories about the past. He convinced Farrell to accompany him to the New York Botanical Gardens which he claimed used to be the site of Avengers Mansion. He then vowed to take down Magnus and his daughter Wanda for what they had done and asked Farrell to write his story for him.[1]See Also
