Synopsis for "But I Don't Want to Go Back to the Savage Land!"
Ka-Zar and Shanna are preparing to leave Pangea after being banished but Ka-Zar is irate at having to leave. They discover effigies being burned while hanging from a tree outside their window and catch several hooded Pterons responsible for the act, whom they attack. Their apartment is burned and all of their belongings are lost in the melee. Ka-Zar pleads his case before the Pangean Peace Council and Dherk agrees they must uncover the common enemy as he retells the story of Tilbrok.
In the story, he tells of the Atlanteans who long ago had left Atlantis and occupied the caverns beneath Pangea and ultimately discovered a cavern filled with advanced technology. Upon finding it. They used the tech to create an elaborate amusement park called Pangealand and then began experimenting on other inhabitants of the cave with genetic technology. They created a number of different beast-men to act as their slaves but the beast-men were intelligent and sought to overthrow their enslavers under the leadership of a bird-man named Tilbrok. After one particular event that almost cost the life of an ape-girl, Tilbrok fought the Atlanteans in anger but was ultimately overcome. The event failed but Tilbrok’s ghost appeared to the beast-men and encouraged them to rebel, which they did successfully.
Dherk’s story convinces the Pangeans to maintain peace but they still demand Ka-Zar leave. As Ka-Zar, Shanna, and Zabu are leaving Pangea, they come under sudden attack by a group of Pterons led by Phangor. They are ultimately victorious and Phangor is severely injured during the fight.
