Synopsis for "Wildfire"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Lorna, the Jungle Girl #6

In the jungle the animals have become restless, this mood comes to the attention of Lorna the Jungle Girl although she does not know what the cause is. Searching the jungle she spots a helicopter swooping down on a herd of Gazelles and snares one in it's net. Lorna tries to stop the helicopter but fails when the chopper takes off. Suddenly a rhino charges as her, but Lorna is able to evade it's charge and stuns the creature before it can harm her. Just then Greg Knight and a group of natives arrive at the scene. Aware of the danger, Greg once more tells Lorna that the jungle is no place for her and tells her to seek safety someplace else. Lorna leaves his presence but is determine to stay.

Swinging through the jungle, Lorna spots the helicopter flying over again. Climbing a tall tree, Lorna is able to jump at the aircraft and grab hold of it's landing wheels. The helicopter passes over Greg Knight and his party, and he spots Lorna on the wheel and he decides to follow after it. However before the chopper lands at it's camp, the pilots notice Lorna holding on and hover over a crocodile infested lake and begins trying to land there. Seeing no way out of the danger, Lorna jumps off instead and lands on one of the crocs and forces it to swim her to shore.

The chopper lands and the pilots, two animal hunters named Aggie and Joe, come at Lorna with a gun. Joe explains that they have been hired to capture animals that are to be used in experiments. While this is being discussed, Aggie tosses away her cigarette starting a wild fire in the dry conditions. As the flames begin to rage, Lorna makes a run to the caged animals and sets them free. Aggie and Joe try to get clear of the flames. Joe stumbles into the lake and is eaten alive by the crocs in the water. Aggie is then confronted by the animals that Lorna set free and the maul her to death.

Soon a rain begins to fall, putting out the fire and in the aftermath of the carnage, Greg Knight arrives with his party. He once more berates Lorna for being in the jungle as it's a man's domain and she jokingly asks if she can stay by him, which he angrily refuses.
