Juliana Valencia was the daughter of Juan Carlos Valencia, a powerful Colombian cartel boss. A year after Juliana told him that doctors had discovered she had a rare type of cancer, Valencia spent most of his fortune in an auction for a kit of Extremis sold by A.I.M., hoping to program it solely to return Juliana to health. In the process, he tested Extremis another terminally-ill subject, and they died.
As soon as he was informed that Iron Man was looking for the Extremis kits sold by A.I.M., Valencia hired the criminals Living Laser, Vibro and Firebrand to protect the kit in case Iron Man came for it. When the hero arrived at his mansion, he used his Stealth Armor to get to Juliana's room unnoticed. Believing that Juliana was an unwilling test subject, Iron Man woke her up, but she called the guards. The super villains fought Iron Man, but barely slowed him down.
Juan Carlos intercepted the fight between Iron Man and the Living Laser to explain the situation, and that he only wanted his daugther's survival. Stark agreed to help him reconfigure Extremis to reduce its roughness and thus guarantee Juliana's survival, but ensured that Juan Carlos was going to be arrested.[1]
