—A random stranger

Following his battle against the Mandarin and his creation, Ultimo, Tony Stark returned to the States to find his factories closed, his accounts frozen, and a warrant issued for his arrest, (having refused to appear before a Senate committee to reveal the secrets of the Iron Man armor). Now penniless and still attempting to keep his Iron Man persona a secret, Stark has to find a place to change into the armor and recharge before his chest plate runs out of power and his heart is at risk of failing him once again.

Despite wanting to keep her safe from the secret of Iron Man, Stark rushes in pain to Pepper Potts' apartment building, just as his chest plate's power runs dangerously low. Changing to Iron Man so that the power supplied by the suit can temporarily recharge his chest plate, Stark finds Pepper isn't home and decides to try finding Happy Hogan next. Rushing across town to Happy's house, Iron Man passes an empty Avengers HQ[1], only to find that Happy isn't home either.

Low on power with nowhere else to go, Iron Man considers turning himself over to the authorities down by the harbor. Before he can make a decision, he is attacked by Warlord Krang in his flagship Atlantean sub with Lady Dorma in tow. Hoping that he would win Dorma's heart by killing the hero with the weapons from his ship, Krang was instead thwarted by Lady Dorma, who refused to be a party to murder and by attempting to take the controls, and thus gave Iron Man a chance to blast the sub and force it to re-submerge.

With his armor damaged and his power supply moments from failing, Iron Man realizes his only hope is to break into his own lab to recharge and repair himself. Crashing through the skylight and narrowly landing without injury, Iron Man is surprised by the Prince Namor, proclaiming that this is Iron Man's finish.

Synopsis for "When Fall the Mighty!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Tales of Suspense #80When Fall the Mighty!

Finding himself a fugitive from the law, Iron Man was running low on power when he was attacked by Warlord Krang. After their battle, he broke into his own factory in order to effect repairs and recharge himself, however he was interrupted by the arrival of the Sub-Mariner whom had come to destroy the Golden Avenger.

During their fight, Iron Man proves to be at a great disadvantage to the Atlantean monarch and locks himself in a lab in order to repair his damaged armor and recharge himself. While Namor tries to smash through the door, he reflects on why he is out to destroy Iron Man: How he was seeking to get revenge on Warlord Krang and Lady Dorma for their betrayals, and how Iron Man's intervention allowed them to get away from his wrath, and he had followed Iron Man to his factory to get revenge.

Iron Man repairs his armor and opens the door to take on Namor, only to find that he is gone. The police, Pepper Potts, and Happy Hogan arrive to find out what's happening. There Iron Man tries to explain to the police that he was attacked by the Sub-Mariner.

Meanwhile, Namor had fled because his strength was weakening from being on dry land and so he flew to the nearest source of water to replenish his strength. Now at peak strength, Namor once again charges off to get revenge on Iron Man. This story is concluded in Tales to Astonish #82.

Synopsis for "The Power of Iron Man!"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Tales to Astonish #82The Power of Iron Man!

This story continues from the events in Tales of Suspense Vol 1 80...

The Sub-Mariner has come to seek revenge against Iron Man for interfering in his quest to get revenge on Lady Dorma for leaving him to marry Warlord Krang. Their fight has taken them outside of Stark Industries manufacturing plant where the two duke it out. With his power supply running low, Iron Man soon begins to lose the struggle until he manages to have the Sub-Mariner lead the fight to a nearby recharging receptacle and recharges his armor to full power.

This allows Iron Man to gain the upper-hand against the unsuspecting Sub-Mariner. As the battle rages on, police arrive on the scene and prepare to attack. Noticing this move, the Sub-Mariner turns his aggressions on them, keeping the officers at bay. While shouting threats warning the officers from striking him again, Namor is distracted long enough for Iron Man to recover and jump the Atlantean prince from behind.

As Namor and Iron Man struggle, the monarch's keen eyesight allows him to spot Warlord Krang's submarine out at sea. Breaking off from the fight the Sub-Mariner dives back into the ocean and swims after his hated enemy Warlord Krang. With the battle over, Iron Man leaves the scene as well.

Returning to his home and changing out of his armor, Tony Stark ponders over if he has the right to keep the secret of Iron Man's armor from the government when the technology could be vital for the American government's vital interests. He decides that it's time to call Senator Byrd and sort things out once and for all.

Iron Man's adventure continues in Tales of Suspense Vol 1 81 while Namor's quest continues next issue...
