History

Origin[]

With an increasing number in the student body, Cyclops & Emma Frost reorganized the Xavier Institute's educational and training program.[2] The Hellions Squad was advised by Emma Frost.[3][4][5]

Academy X[]

Even before their official formation, New Mutants Squad and the Hellions Squad were at odds with each other.[6] The two squads became intensely competitive during Field Day events.[7] This rivalry came to a head when Wither was arrested by the F.B.I.. The Hellions went to take on the F.B.I. and free Wither, and the New Mutants went to stop them from fighting the government. The X-Men intervened before any damage was done, but Wither and Icarus switched teams because of the event.[8]

Wither continued to clash with Elixir (primarily over Laurie's affections). During the semester, Wither discovered Elixir had had a brief affair with a professor, Wolfsbane. He informed the entire school, successfully ending Josh's relationship with Laurie and terminating Wolfsbane's employment.[9]

The Hellions won first place in the Field Day Events at the Xavier Institute.[10]

Summer Vacation[]

During the summer break, the Hellions Squad accompanied Julian Keller to his family's home in California.[11] There, they were contacted by the Kingmaker, who gave them several extraordinary gifts in exchange for a favor.[12] The favor turned out to be robbery.[13] Seeing the error in their ways, the Hellions later took on Kingmaker and defeated him.[14]

M-Day[]

After M-Day only 27 of 182 enrolled Xavier's students retained their powers. The New Mutants Squad was disbanded along with all the other X-Men Training Squads. Several squad members, who retained their powers, were inducted into the New X-Men.[15]
