Halphas, also known as Hive, is a demon distantly related to Mephisto.
History
As part of preparations for the "war between the forces of good and the forces of evil," Mephisto put several plans into action, one including removing Nightcrawler and his magic-inclined adopted family from his path. His distant cousin ("several times removed") Halphas was tasked with this mission in addition to retrieving the Soulsword.[1]
Shortly after Nightcrawler revealed his teleporting powers to his adopted brother Stephan Szardos, Stephan admitted to a fear that the magic running through their family would lead to him hurting people.[2] The changes that lead Stephan to jealousy and the eventual killing of Mutant children turned out to be from Hive's influence, suggesting that Nightcrawler was not responsible for Stephan's death at all.
While in pursuit of the Soulsword, Hive possessed Nightmare and ambushed Magik (Jimaine Szardos) in Limbo. He subdued the guardian snakes, then captured and tortured Jimaine. However, Margali Szardos managed to defeat him, rescuing her daughter. Nightmare had no recollection of his time while possessed by Hive.
Hive then possessed Amos Jardine as part of a mission to kill Nightcrawler. The demon launched an assault on the circus consisting of Man-Thing, Gator, Carrion, and a horde of zombies. After leaving Jardine, Hive found a new host in Wolverine. He stabbed Christine Palmer and drew Nightcrawler into a battle.
After Nightcrawler captured the demon, Hive confessed to merely being a pawn of Mephisto and died shortly after.Attributes
