Synopsis for "H... As in Hulk... Hell... and Holocaust!"

Fleeing the authorities after another rampage, the Hulk is led into a secret passage by a little girl. All this turns out to be a trap set by Asmodeus to lure the Hulk into his own personal hell. Demanding that the other Defenders bow to his masters demands, the Defenders instead enlist the aid of Son of Satan to free their emerald companion.

Traveling to Asmodeus' realm, all the Defenders and Son of Satan are all subjected to their own personal demons, however when they switch torments, they find it easy to break loose. Freeing themselves and attacking Asmodeus, the foe awakens the anger of his master, Satannish, who claims Asmodeus instead of his intended victims. With the Hulk free and Asmodeus gone, Son of Satan bids farewell to the Defenders.

Synopsis for "The Shark People"

Reprint of the 4th story from
Young Men #25

At the Battery Park ferry terminal people are horrified when a woman pushes through the crowd and dives into the water before the ferry arrives. A man dives in to try and save her from drowning but finds only her dress, but no sign of the body. The Coast Guard is called in to search, but even scraping the bottom of the water yields no results. The mystery baffles the authorities, and it makes the newspapers.

Reading the story Betty Dean suggests to her friend the Sub-Mariner to check it out. Namor goes down to the docks where the woman disappeared later that night and comes across the body of a man who appears to have been mauled to death by a shark recently. However, upon closer inspection Namor is surprised to find that the man is bone dry and recalls that sharks don't live in the waters near New York. Calling the authorities to recover the body, Namor then dives into the water to investigate. While Namor is occupied, not far away a coast guard ship's hull is breached and the crew aboard are attacked by sharks.

The next day, the Sub-Mariner is called to help examine the remains that have washed ashore and everyone including Namor is stumped as to the origin of the attacks. However a bystander overhearing Namor's conversation with coast guard officials makes a snide comment suggesting that he might know the cause of the attack. The Sub-Mariner begins trailing the man and watches as he suddenly walks into a secluded part of the water. Diving in after him, Namor is suddenly attacked by a great white shark. In order to defend himself Namor rips the creature's jaw open killing it. The next morning the body of the man Namor followed swims to shore and Namor notes that his jaw has been ripped off as well.

Staking out the beach that night he finds a mysterious woman wandering around and stops her. Suspecting she is one of the shake people Namor remarks how the authorities have devised a way to slay all her people, making her blow her cover. Realizing the jig is up, the shark woman attacks but Namor easily subdues her. Defeated, the woman explains that she and her people are a water-dwelling species from another planet. They had mastered the ability to transport their minds across space to Earth and took on the form of the great white shark. Craving live flesh they developed the ability to assume human form so they could attack their land dwelling prey to feed but have to return to the water by nightfall or die. She then tells Namor that all her people are going to meet off the coast of Cape Hatteras. Namor thanks her for the information and filled with grief for betraying her people the woman dives into the water, resuming her shark form and impales herself on a rock jutting out of the water.

Namor convinces the coast guard of the story and they soon arrive at the meeting of the Shark People and bound them all in a net, and give them an ultimatum: return to where they came from or die. Refusing to leave, the coast guard and Namor haul the Shark People out of the water and leave them out long enough that they all die off.

Reprint of the 1st story from
Black Knight #4

When King Arthur answers a call to overthrow Sir Guy Wandrell and his forces, the Black Knight joins the battle and succeeds in defeating Wandrell's forces. In the aftermath of the battle, Sir Guy confesses to King Arthur that he and his men began looting and plundering the region as he owns a small barony and sought to acquire great wealth in order to win the hand of Lady Rosamund. As Sir Guy was motivated by love, King Arthur decrees that Sir Guy must stay confined to his own land and if he is to deviated from this he would be arrested and locked in the dungeons of Camelot.

However this defeat has not stopped Sir Guy, who blames his defeat on the Black Knight and begins plotting revenge. He then has his armorer fashion a suit of armor that resembles that of the Black Knight so that he can frame the hero for crimes. Meanwhile, the Black Knight races through his secret passage in the castle so that he can change back into his alter-ego of Sir Percy before anyone can notice his absence. After once more failing to charm Lady Rosamund, Sir Percy overhears how the Black Knight had apparently robbed a caravan. Soon after a series of other such attacks, apparently committed by the Black Knight, King Arthur is forced to decree the once noble hero as an outlaw.

Elsewhere, Sir Guy has rallied his troops to attack Camelot disguised as the Black Knight. However when he comes to attack the castle, both Sir Guy and King Arthur and his counterforces are shocked to see the appearance of the real Black Knight. Unable to tell the real Black Knight apart from the impostor, King Arthur orders that the two settle the situation with a jousting competition. Sure enough, the real Black Knight easily bests Sir Guy and his duplicity is exposed. As the real Black Knight leaves the battlefield he tosses a rose to Lady Rosamund.

Synopsis for "Beyond the Purple Veil!"

Reprint of the 2nd story from
Strange Tales #119

Doctor Strange is up late studying a sinister gem when he discovers two common burglars breaking into his house. He sends them through the wall and leaves them without calling the police. This encourages the thieves to return next evening, after Strange has dismissed Wong and retreated to his study. They steal the strange gem and escape. Doctor Strange quickly senses that something is wrong. The gem has transported the unsuspecting thieves to the Purple Dimension. Doctor Strange enters the Purple Dimension and is brought before its ruler, Aggamon the All-Powerful. Aggamon shows how his subjects are slaving in the mines digging for gems and then offers to release his captives, if Doctor Strange takes their place. He accepts, but breaks free of his shackles as soon as the two thieves have been returned. Aggamon attacks with his jeweled demolisher beam and Strange counters with his magic amulet. The contest lasts for hours and both grow weaker. At last, the cowardly Aggamon surrenders. With his amulet, Strange weakens Aggamon's powers and makes it so that only by releasing his captives may Aggamon regain his strength. Doctor Strange returns to his house, where he learns that the two crooks have given themselves up and promised to live straight from now on.
