History

Gelva was presumably an aristocratic Atlantean and the mother of Andromeda due to a dalliance with Attuma. Attuma did not raise Andromeda and did not know which of his many former lovers had given birth to Andromeda when she accussed him of being her father. Attuma hated Gelva and called her a bullocked whale.[1]

Attributes

Powers

Atlantian Abilities: Gelva apparently possesses the conventional attributes of Homo mermanus: gills that extract oxygen from water, superhuman physiology to withstand extreme pressures and temperatures, and acute vision. She can swim at approximately 30 miles per hour. She can remain out of water for approximately nine minutes before beginning to suffocate. However, she can operate on the surface by wearing a water-filled helmet or using a chemical that enables her to draw oxygen from the air.

Notes

Presumably Andromeda's illegitimacy was not a problem in Atlantean society, as Andromeda grew up with many advantages most likely due to her mother being a woman of means.

Trivia

Gelva is only mentioned in passing in Iron Man Annual #10 and does not actually appear in the comics.
