—Franz Lubischt's last words[1]

Franz Lubischt was a Nazi geneticist and war criminal who carried out inhumane experiments on human beings at Auschwitz. After the war, he became a fugitive. He eventually joined the criminal group Genesis Coalition, where he used humans and animals in an experiment to brutally create hybrid super-soldiers at a secret base in South America. The mercenary Paladin discovered Lubischt's presence and informed Silver Sable; she and her team, the Wild Pack, traveled to South America to kill Lubischt and collect a bounty on his head. The operation was successful, the test subjects were released, and Sable personally shot Lubischt dead, but many Coalition leaders escaped.

History

Geneticist[3] Dr. Franz Lubischt was a Nazi war criminal. At some point in his career, he was destined to Auschwitz-Birkenau, where he obtained personal "fulfillment", possibly while performing inhuman experiments in human beings. After the end of World War II, Lubischt became a fugitive with a sizeable price for his head, and decades later he ended up collaborating with the Genesis Coalition,[1] a splinter faction[4] of Neo-Nazi group Hydra[3] after their secession.[5]

Lubischt and a large group from the Genesis Coalition, including Dmitri Petrovich and Coalition leaders Fritz Sablinova and Ivan Trefkov, established a secret base hidden behind a waterfall[1] in the lush rain forest of South America, with multiple low-level agents and scientists at their command.[3] Trefkov made sure of maintaining Nazi ideology in the Genesis Coalition, which was appreciated by Lubischt .[1] The Genesis Coalition captured humans and animals to subject them to[3] very painful experiments[3][1] in an attempt to create extraordinarily powerful hybrid super-soldiers, with support from international investors and advanced equipment stolen from Hydra.

Lubischt was not the only ancient Nazi geneticist doing this work, although he was the most important,[3] and he really enjoyed his work. Sablinova complained that Lubischt tortured test subjects, but Lubischt claimed that it was necessary to learn the limits of his super-soldiers.[1]

Lubischt had read about the archaeologist Malcolm Murphy, responsible for important, sometimes mystical, discoveries, and had a personal interest in him.[6] When the Coalition learned that Murphy and his crew were searching a tribal burial ground[6][2] in Peru,[2] the Genesis Coalition sent a strike team to assassinate everyone except Murphy, who was to be brought before Lubischt . The operation was a success, and Murphy was captured. Simultaneously, the Genesis Coalition captured a Siberian tiger elsewhere.[6][2] Lubischt , in his laboratory, kept the tiger imprisoned by Murphy to combine their DNA and fuse their mind and soul, turning both into a hybrid man-tiger.[6][2] Lubischt then tested the endurance and durability of his new subject using electrical shocks and shackling him to a treadmill,[1][2] dismissing the fact that the hybrid had problems combining memories and the minds of Murphy and the tiger[1][6][2] due to a chemical imbalance.[7] Lubischt carried out experiments on other animals and human natives, obtaining hybrids of human and gorilla, and of human and leopard, with different degrees of success; some of these test subjects were submitted to mind-altering chemicals;[1] a mutated ape escaped, but was re-captured.[3]

The mercenary Paladin, hired by Silver Sable and the Wild Pack,[8] found the South American Genesis Coalition base, and reported to Sable,[3][4] explicitly mentioning the ancient Nazi geneticists.[3] The Wild Pack traveled there to stop them; the purpose of the operation was to stop Lubischt 's experiments. At that point, Lubischt had progressed and expected to have the super-soldiers ready in one month time, thou due to pressures from other Coalition members, he agreed to speed it up to two weeks. The Pack intercepted several Genesis Coalition patrolling guards and questioned them about where Lubischt was; they initially refused to answer, but one of them revealed the location of the base. Sable's plan was to isolate Lubischt, then release the prisoners and destroy the base. They did infiltrate the base, but triggered alarms, prompting Petrovich to activate the defenses. Petrovich went personally to the main lab to protect Lubischt while the Genesis Coalition leaders evacuated.[1]

The Wild Pack found several mutated prisoners they released; the Murphy-tiger hybrid, grateful, gave them information on where to find Lubischt (the main lab), and even helped them against more hostile prisoners. Paladin and Sable went there, and were ambushed by Lubischt and Petrovich. Lubischt disarmed Paladin lest he used his gun against one of the "pets", then released a gorilla-like creature to keep Paladin busy, while Petrovich fought Sable, allowing Lubischt to escape. However, Sable incapacitated Petrovich quickly and aimed her gun at Lubischt. Lubischt tried to shoot at Sable, but she was faster and injured him in the arm. Still refusing to surrender, Lubischt insulted Sable for not killing him immediately and even threatened her.[1] She then shot Lubischt dead.[1][2]

With a second wind, Petrovich tried to take this chance to attack Sable. He was defeated again but managed to escape.[1]

Attributes

Abilities

Lubischt was an accomplished geneticist[3] capable of combining DNA from beings of different species[7] to create human-animal hybrids with extraordinary abilities, which he kept under control using drugs.[1] The process used by Lubischt was so advanced that other scientists were confused when analyzing their subjects.[1]

Lubischt spoke understandable English.[1]

Paraphernalia

Weapons

Lubischt had a personal handgun, and also used a long stick to disarm the Paladin.[1]

Notes

Trivia

  • Lubischt never spoke fluent English, and incorporated German words and phrases when speaking English, in addition to having a very strong accent.[1]
  • Addressing Silver Sable, Lubischt once mentioned "all (he) had done to (her) heathenistic people"; the details about these atrocities are unclear and may suggest Lubischt having been active in Symkaria.
  • Silver Sable claimed that Ivan Trefkov was the first man she killed in cold blood.[9] However, shortly before that, she killed Lubischt with a premeditated shot after having disarmed him. Lubischt had had attempted to surprise Sable with a hidden weapon, and perhaps he was attempting some similar maneuver.[1]
  • In his final encounter, Lubischt tried to shoot Silver, holding the gun with his left hand. Silver stops him by shooting his arm, but Lubischt is next seen grabbing his right arm with his left hand.[1] This possibly means that Silver hit his free arm, but due to the pain he dropped the gun he was holding with the other hand.
