History

Early Life[]

The unnamed man was once a failed professional American Football player.[1]

Flying Tiger[]

He later to turned to crime using an armored costume as the Flying Tiger, a high-priced freelance assassin who was sent to take out Spider-Woman. During the attack she was forced to save some innocent bystanders whose car is almost knocked off the Golden Gate Bridge. This allowed Flying Tiger to smash her into San Francisco Bay. Assuming that she was dead, Flying Tiger went his employer Nguyen Ngoc Coy, who told him to eliminate his underworld rivals. Spider-Woman survived and when she observed a kidnapping by Coy's men, she intervened and was once more attacked by Flying Tiger. Now with new-found skills, she was evenly matched against the Tiger, and defeated him with a point-blank venom blast to the face.[1]

Sometime later, Locksmith began kidnaping and imprisoning superhumans, whom he mostly found by tracking Spider-Woman and capturing superhumans she interacted with. This included Flying Tiger, even though he wasn't superhuman, as his flying powers and strength came from his armored costume. Other prisoners included Shroud, Tigra, Werewolf by Night, Poltergeist, Angar the Screamer, Daddy Longlegs, Dansen Macabre, Hangman, Killer Shrike, Needle, Nekra, Gypsy Moth, Tatterdemalion, and Enforcer. When Locksmith finally captured Spider-Woman herself, she defeated Locksmith and freed the prisoners she trusted. Flying Tiger (and the other criminal prisoners) were turned over to the police.[2]

Iron Man[]

Flying Tiger, still in the employ of Nguyen Ngoc Coy, was tasked with kidnaping businessman Regis Fussky to a jungle camp ran by the Kingpin and the rebel Colonel Perez in a unnamed South America country. The Kingpin did not want Fusskey kidnapped from the United States, so Tiger disguised himself as the co-pilot on a flight Fuskey was taking to the same unnamed country, and grabbed Fussky mid-flight. Fussky had hired Iron Man (James Rhodes) as his bodyguard, but as Rhodes wasn't wearing his armor during the flight, Flying Tiger was able to escape with Fussky -- and the suitcase containing the Iron Man Armor. Rhodes followed Flying Tiger via parachute, and recovered his armor when Tiger discarded it because he couldn't open the case. Eventually, Flying Tiger, Iron Man and Fusskey all converged at the jungle camp just as it was being bombed by government aircraft (provided by the United States). Iron Man rescued Fusskey and left an unconscious Tiger behind, where he was caught in one of the explosions but survived.[3]

Acts of Vengeance[]

During the Acts of Vengeance event, Doctor Doom used an Aggression Enhancer on a large number of super-criminals (including Flying Tiger) to cause them to attack the Fantastic Four, who were testifying before Congress.[4] The villains were all defeated by the Fantastic Four and imprisoned in the superhuman prison known as the Vault.[5]

A.I.M. Weapons Expo[]

Flying Tiger was among the many criminals to visit the A.I.M. Weapons Expo on Boca Caliente but the event was however crashed by Captain America.[6]

Masters of Evil[]

Flying Tiger joined the seventh incarnation of the Masters of Evil gathered by the Crimson Cowl (Justine Hammer).[7] First working for Hydra, they tried to garner the favor of the New York crime families. This incensed Citizen V and the rest of the Thunderbolts, seeing the Masters' legacy turned into mere mercenary work.[8]

Initiative[]

Again operating in San Francisco, Flying Tiger was taken down by the young hero Armory.[9]

The Raft[]

Flying Tiger was imprisoned at the Raft. He escaped when it was destroyed, but was apprehended by Giant-Man.[10]

Black Lodge[]

At Black Lodge, Flying Tiger (along with Puff Adder) was watching television when a bandaged Peter Parker was brought in using a wheelchair.[11] Surgeon General of Black Lodge asked Flying Tiger to take out Spider-Man. He (along with Puff Adder and Eel) fought Spidey. Flying Tiger tossed Spidey against a wall and knocked him out. Firebrand set the hospital on fire, and Flying Tiger (and the other villains) were rescued by Spider-Man.[12]

Pleasant Hill[]

Flying Tiger was imprisoned by S.H.I.E.L.D. in Pleasant Hill, a prison in the form of a small town where the inmates had their memories and appearances tampered with using a sentient Cosmic Cube named Kobik, so they could be turned into model citizens. When a group of villains led by Baron Zemo snapped out of this fantasy world and returned to their true selves, they attacked the village from within, wreaking havoc and freeing the other prisoners from Pleasant Hill's control.

Flying Tiger was one of these numerous villains. When the bad guys took notice of the presence of the Avengers on the scene, they used their numbers to their advantage and mercilessly struck down the heroes. However, Kobik took compassion on the Avengers and healed them.[13] After saving the heroes, Kobik disappeared from the scene.[14]

Flying Tiger later appeared as a member of Baron Zemo's "New Masters" alongside Firebrand and Plantman.[15]

Hunted[]

Flying Tiger was one of the many animal-themed villains kidnapped by Taskmaster and Black Ant to participate (against their will) in the Great Hunt, a event organized by Kraven the Hunter and Arcade where the villains were hunted by remote-control Hunterbots controlled by rich sportsmen. It is unknown if Tiger was killed during the event, or was among the villains who were arrested or who escaped at the end.[16]
