History

In an attempt to prove himself to Hydra, financial advisor Tug Freeland stole Dominic Fortune's gambling boat, the Mississippi Queen, just in time for the Annual Mississippi Queen 1937 gala charity. He planned to use the event as a front to steal valuable data from the attendees.

Tug kept an eye on Dominic when he attended the gala, secretly accompanied by S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson. When Freeland decided to get his men to get rid of Dominic, Fortune blew Coulson's cover to save his skin, claiming the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent was using him to spy on Tug. This allowed Dominic to keep watching Freeland, and follow him to his cabin, where he discovered Freeland's plans. Freeland sent Fortune to the ship's cell after his men discovered him sneaking around.

Once he had retrieved all the data he wanted, Freeland prepared to leave the ship in a helicopter with his accomplice, the croupier Sid Mars, who had left a explosive charge in the ship. S.H.I.E.L.D. reinforcements arrived to free Coulson and Dominic from the cell, but too late to prevent Freeland and Mars from escaping in the helicopter. Fortune discovered the explosive charge and hurled it at Freeland's helicopter, causing it to explode.[1]
