History

Octavian Bloom was one of the heads of Hydra's activities in North America. Following the death of Daniel Whitehall, a representative of Baron von Strucker organized a competition between Bloom and three of Hydra's other heads. Whichever one of them could bring S.H.I.E.L.D. out of hiding would get to take Daniel Whitehall's now-vacant position. Before the competition could really begin, Sunil Bakshi escaped from S.H.I.E.L.D. custody and contacted Bloom. Bakshi convinced him to simply kill the other three heads, as well as the driver who drove him there. Although his operatives managed to eliminate his competition, the driver and his partner proved too much for them. They were really Lance Hunter and Agent Bobbi Morse, and in reality Bakshi's escape was a ruse concocted by S.H.I.E.L.D.'s director Phil Coulson to lead the organization to Hydra's leadership. Hunter and Morse broke into Bloom's house and killed him before taking Bakshi back into their custody.
