Synopsis for "Earth's Mightiest - Part 1 of 3: The Smartest Man in the Room"

Stature and Vision arrive at the ruins of Avengers Mansion to answer a call from Wiccan about magic Billy has detected that could pose a global threat. They are stunned to find the other members of the Young Avengers turned to stone, victims of an effect that is quickly spreading. As Vision scoops Cassie up and flies towards safety, their shock is compounded by the sudden appearance of the Scarlet Witch in the air in front of them. In a flash of red light, all three of them disappear.

Similar unexplained disasters are happening all over the world. Tsunamis of blood overwhelm New York City, bringing Norman Osborn’s Avengers to action. San Francisco has been entirely encased in amber. The waters of the Atlantic Ocean have begun to boil. Fire is raining down on Wakanda. Aggressive plant life is taking over Philadelphia. Flesh-eating insects swarm the streets of Toronto. Raging volcanoes erupt around Cape Canaveral, putting a Stark facility in peril. A massive blizzard covers the Arizona desert in snow.

Scarlet Witch appears in the sky above many of these disaster areas, whisking heroes away from danger where she can. While she is too late to save the New Avengers in Philadelphia, she does save U.S. Agent (Toronto) and Hulk (Arizona). Iron Man, meanwhile, evacuates his facility and flies into orbit to access a Stark satellite to try and get the “big picture” of the crisis. After some analysis, Tony determines that the source of the chaos is magic emanating from Mount Wundagore.

Meanwhile, Edwin Jarvis, driving across the southern border of Kansas, discovers that the entire state of Oklahoma - and thus, Asgard and Thor - have been wiped out of existence. A craft suddenly lands beside his car and out step Amadeus Cho and Hercules. They are trying to gather a team that can stop the “chaos cascade”, and Amadeus has determined that Jarvis is the one constant in every successful iteration of the Avengers. The three of them set off to find the person Jarvis thinks can lead a new team of Avengers: Hank Pym.

They find Pym - and Jocasta, serving as his android assistant - at a mall in Chicago, where he has established a laboratory. After some back and forth, they are able to convince Hank - now going by the codename Wasp - to get over his self-doubt and lead. Like Tony Stark, Amadeus has determined that the crisis is originating from Transia (home of Mount Wundagore). Using the unique space-time-warping properties of the “Pym Pocket” containing Hank’s lab, the group steps through a doorway and immediately arrives in Transia.

Scarlet Witch is there waiting for them. She says she has gathered an army, and all Hank has to do is summon them. With a cry of “Avengers assemble!”, Stature, Vision, Hulk, and U.S. Agent appear, ready for a fight.

Nearby, the magical source of the crisis is revealed. The sorcerer Modred - with the unwilling assistance of a captive Bova - is conducting a ritual to graft the text of the Darkhold to his body. With the increased power this grants him, Modred summons the Elder God Chthon, who possesses the body of another of Modred’s prisoners: Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver.
