Notes
- Brotherhood was promoted without revealing the identity of its writer, Howard Mackie, who was instead only referred to as "X." The idea was pitched by Mackie himself to his editor Mark Paniccia in response to the comic industry having become too driven by a cult of personality at the time. Mackie intended to experiment and see if a book without a writer's name attached to it could succeed on merit alone. The identity of Writer X went unrevealed for years, until Mackie himself decided to come clean in November, 2018.[1]
- Mackie and editor Axel Alonso agreed mutually to cancel the book following 9/11 because Mackie didn't feel comfortable writing a book with terrorists as its lead characters.[1]
