History

During the days of the American Frontier the town of Leadville, Texas had many lawmen that kept the peace who worked side-by-side with the masked hero known as the Black Rider. The lawman who most frequently worked with the Black Rider was Sheriff Ben Yarby who was presumably elected into the position after the Black Rider had been active for a number of years in the region.

Early in his tenure as the sheriff of Leadville Yarby's son fell ill and required a much needed vaccine. The boy was under the care of local doctor Matthew Masters (the Black Rider's secret identity). However the much needed medicine was stolen by Ace Darcy who then used it as a bargaining chip to force Yarby to allow him to build a gambling hall in Leadville. Yarby allowed the gambling hall and was given the medicine, tipping off Masters as to why Yarby allowed the gambling hall to built to begin with. As the Black Rider, Masters assisted Yarby in shutting down Ace Darcy's operation. After Masters administered the medicine, Ben's son underwent a full recovery.[1]

Since then Yarby has assisted the Black Rider on a number of occasions.
