Quote1 Darkness falls. Quote2
Psylocke[src]

History

Nothing is known about the past of the woman known as Psylocke. As a Japanese ninja, she has past history with Weapon X and the Silver Samurai, although the details of it are also unrevealed. When the Guthrie family attacked the X-Men for having left their sister Husk behind to die on a mission in the Core, Psylocke was called in to help the team fend off the attack. She furtively used her powers to save Magneto's son from the Guthries' clutches, proving to be a crucial surprise element for their success.[1]

When defeated, Husk revealed the whereabouts of Sinister to the X-Men, and Psylocke joined them in their battle against Sinister and his Sinister Six, a group of brainwashed mutants.[2] During the battle, Psylocke chose to battle Dagger and left her open to be attacked by Magneto. Moreover, Psylocke proved to be instrumental in telepathically freeing Phoenix from Sinister's control, which eventually led to the evil genius' downfall and supposed death. With the battle over, Psylocke then used her psychic powers to free all of the Sinister Six members from Sinister's mind control. She also used her powers to unlock the memories of the young X-Man Kirika, revealing that she was not in fact a clone of Weapon X, but his biological daughter. Psylocke then joined the Silver Samurai, Kirika, and Sunfire in a mission to rebuild Japan.[3] Although her companions eventually returned to the X-Men,[4] Psylocke's fate is still unrevealed.

Attributes

Powers

Psylocke is a mutant with telepathic abilities similar if not identical to her mainstream counterpart. These include:

  • Telepathy: She possesses aggressive mental powers that affect and manipulate the minds of other sentient beings.
    • Psychic Knife: The manifestation of Psylocke's telepathy is in the form a psychic knife, which are razor-sharp edges of pure mental energy. She used these both to disrupt the minds of her foes, in order to knock them out, and to clean the effects of mental brainwashing. The process of being afflicted by the psychic knife is described to be painful.[5]
  • Shadow Camouflage: Psylocke has the ability to become one with the shadows, being able to furtively surprise her opponents. It is unclear whether this ability is mutant in nature, if it is related to her telepathy or if it is derived from a different source, such as her training as a ninja for instance.

Abilities

Accomplished martial artist.

Notes

  • The explanation as to why she is depicted as an Asian given the complex mainstream continuity that led her from being British to Asian remains unexplained. Her close connections to Japan and the utter lack of any reference to her background as Betsy Braddock suggest that this version of Psylocke is in fact Kwannon, and that she has never had any connection to the Braddocks.

Trivia

  • Psylocke did not appear in the original Age of the Apocalypse story arc, and it was speculated by long time X-Men fans that she was one of the many telepaths whose brains were harvested by Apocalypse to be a telepathic security perimeter to defend his citadel from attack.[citation needed]
