Origin
Origin
As part of the Secret Wars on Battleworld, Spider-Man came into possession of a black costume when his red-and-blue costume was shredded in battle. It would later be revealed that this black costume was in fact an alien symbiote. Grafting itself onto its new host, the symbiote returned with Spider-Man to Earth. From there, it was separated via a sonic blast by Reed Richards in order to free Spider-Man from the costume, which had all but taken over his mind and life. Escaping from the containment cell constructed by Richards, the symbiote slithered away through the drain and found a willing host in Eddie Brock.

History

Little was known about Venom’s life before the zombie plague arrived on Earth-2149, however it can be presumed that it followed much the same path as Venom (Earth-616).

Somehow becoming infected, Venom was seen a part of the horde of zombified super-villains attacking Galactus when he arrived upon Earth. The World-Devourer was brought down by the combined efforts of the Power Cosmic Zombies, but the super-villains tried to claim the body and a scrap ensued. Ultimately, Brock was easily overpowered and destroyed; both by the cosmically-powered Spider-Man, and the fact his symbiote had been dying for awhile, having been unable to subsist off of dead flesh.

Spiderman and Venom face-off, but Venom put up a very lackluster performance. As the symbiote slipped off Eddie, he explained that he had cancer and that the symbiote no longer wanted him, whether this was partly to do with the Zombie Contagion and whether the symbiote itself was infected with the contagion are still unclear.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

  • Symbiotic Costume: The alien costume, which has grafted itself to the nervous system of Eddie Brock, somehow absorbed the powers of Spider-Man during its brief symbiotic relationship with him. These powers have now been transferred to Brock, so long as he wears the costume.
  • Superhuman Strength: Before he came into contact with the costume, Brock had conditioned himself to lift (press) almost 700 lb. Once they merged, the costume added Spider-Man’s superhuman strength to Brock’s vast human strength, making him more powerful than Spider-Man.
  • Superhuman Durability: Venom's body is highly resistant to physical injury, capable of withstanding assault from high-caliber bullets as well as attacks from super powered individuals. The Symbiote is however particularly vulnerable to both sonic and heat-based attacks.
  • Superhuman Stamina: Venom is also capable of surviving in harmful areas for long periods of time such as underwater or in toxic gases, the symbiote filtering breathable air to the host.
  • Accelerated Healing Factor: Additionally, the symbiote is capable of healing injuries in the host at a faster rate than normal human healing allows. The symbiote is also capable of healing injuries and illness that current human medical care cannot such as cancer.
  • Offspring Detection: The symbiote is also capable of psychically detecting its offspring; however, this ability can be blocked.
  • Wall-Crawling: The alien costume also replicates Spider-Man’s ability to cling to walls by controlling the flux of inter-atomic attraction between molecular boundary layers.
  • Webbing Generation: Venom can also shoot strands of the alien’s substance in the form of "webbing" at high pressure up to a distance of 70 feet. The alien’s substance seems to be composed of tough, flexible fibers of organic polymers, which regenerate swiftly after "shedding". The strands possess a tensile strength of 125 pounds per square millimeter of cross section.
  • ESP (Spider-Sense): Venom also possesses an extrasensory ability similar to Spider-Man’s spider-sense. This response is not as complicated as Spider-Man’s inherent sense since the alien costume can detect danger from every direction and conduct Brock in plenty of time.
-Immunity to Spider-man's Spider Sense: Due to Spider-Man being a host to the symbiote, Venom, and as a result his offspring, is able to bypass Spider-Man's spider-sense. As such, Venom is capable of attacking Spider-Man without alerting him, making Venom a deadly foe.
  • Camouflage Capabilities: The symbiote is capable of mimicking the appearance of any form of clothing, camouflaging with its surroundings, and even mimicking other people.
It is not known, however, how the symbiote retained its bond with Brock's decayed body, since it seems to only depend on living hosts with good health condition (as seen when the Earth-616 version of Brock was left by the symbiote once he developed cancer).

Abilities

Before his bonding with the symbiote, Eddie Brock was an incredibly skilled reporter for the Daily Globe, and knew how to investigate. He also has many sources of information in helping with his plans.

Strength level

Venom possesses superhuman strength enabling him to lift about 25 tons, however judging on some of the beings he has tangled with it appears his strength fluctuates.

Weaknesses

The Symbiote is extremely sensitive to Sonic and Thermal attacks. The Zombie-Brock is also shown to be at a disadvantage with his Symbiote, as it is unable to live effectively with him; thus robbing him of much of his power.
