History

Earl Armstrong was a high-ranking agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Earl's son Harry Angstrong also became an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., yet only as a records officer.

While working on records related to the cyborg Deathlok, Harry was killed by Biohazard, a mutant creature created from an experiment on the brain of John Kelly. Biohazard had evolved into consciousness but lacking all of the memories Kelly had had. As Kelly had became Deathlok before Collins, Biohazard researched on Deathlok and, trying to get updated information, entered S.H.I.E.L.D. facilities. He killed and devoured Harry. When Harry's death was reported to Earl, the evidence suggested that Deathlok himsef (Collins) was a suspect - and Earl knew that Deathlok was meeting with S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury at that time. Fearing that Deathlok had gone rogue, Earl arranged a two-man strike team (Earl and another agent, both wearing Mandroid Armors) to intercept him, partly because he was angry at the death of his son and wanted revenge.

Deathlok defeated Earl's team, restraining Earl thinking that Earl was probably not the enemy. Fury reprimanded Earl for such initiative, even thou Earl had believed it was within his authority.

After having time to consider the evidence and cool off, Earl concluded that Deathlok was not guilty of his son's death, and joined Deathlok to apprehend Biohazard. They succeeded in finding Biohazard in Central Park and apprehending it within a S.H.I.E.L.D.-provided container, in the process saving Kelly's ex-wife and daughter, targetted by the monster. Earl apologized to Deathlok for the previous misunderstanding, respecting Deathlok's morality and noticing that, in their first encounter, Deathlok had tried to stop Earl without killing him, even if Earl was trying to kill Deathlok.

• Earl and Harry's surname is written Angstrom in all of the story arc of Deathlok Vol 2 #12-#15; but it's written Angstrum, for both, in each's single mention as former members of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the article on S.H.I.E.L.D. in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z #10.
